Chuck D was named ambassador for Record Store Day 2014.  Chuck D said “Deejay culture always made us aware that the best records were going to come from the small shops”.  He think big companies do not handle music with care.  He also believes  records stores have an educational purpose to it.  Record stores is sort of like a college course for fan and musician and the personnel are like curators.  April 19, is Record Store Day which is an annual event.  On this day customers, staff and artist come together an celebrate the unique culture of a record store an the special role independently owned stores play in their communities.  There would be release special of vinyl, cd an promotional product exclusively available for the day.  Hundreds of music artist in the US and other countries make special appearances and performances around the globe.  Some estivates includes meet and greet with artist, djs spinning records and cook outs.  Records Store Day was officially kicked off by Metallica in 2008 at Rasputin Music in San Francisco.  Public Enemy rapper Chuck D spoke about the day.  He said “The record store made musicians listen beyond themselves,” Chuck D said at the time. “It both complemented and supplemented the radio. In fact, the best radio stations in the past followed the vibe of the record stores of their regions, thus growing and nurturing each other. The fans and listener had everything to gain, and if they wanted to get into making music, the Record Store turned into their first school and sonic passport out”.
