Kanye West has won a lawsuit against Bitcoin Cyrptocurrencty the creator of “Coinye”. The coin maker place the likeness of West on their digital money. The coin first appeared in January but quickly shut down after West file a cease-and-desist order and sued the large group defendant for unspecified damages.
After the lawsuit “Coinye” temporary shut down, the maker of the coin change the logo on the coin from West face wearing his trademark sunglasses to West looking like a cartoon fish. After the logo change West was fed up he amended his suit to include over 100 defendant with most of the people being listed as John/Jane Does. In the end only three defendants David Mcenery, Harry Willis and Richard Mccord settled with West. A few defendants lost the suit by default, because they failed to respond.
Although the West won in U.S. District Court it has not stop the “Coinye” phenomenon, there are other brand using the Kanye name likeness such as “Coinyecoin.org and Coinyethecoin.com
