Scarface Addresses “Biting” In Hip Hop, Calls Out Trap Music

scarface

Scarface says today’s Hip Hop artists lack direction when artists like Dr. Dre and Marley Marl are no longer making music.

In the third installment of his interview with Hard Knock TV, noted Houston artist Scarface addressed what he believes is a lack of originality when it comes to today’s Hip Hop. The rapper frequently used the term “biting” during his interview and even referred to trap music originator and Atlanta producer Shawty Redd as an example of an artist whose sound is heavily mimicked.

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]

“For somebody to come out and make a trap beat besides Shawty Redd, whatever his name is, the dude that originated trap music. If you are not him then why are you biting his shit…Why does every fucking record sound like one long ass song,” Scarface questioned.

Prior to speaking on Shawty Redd, Scarface mentioned the likes of Dr. Dre and Marley Marl, two artists who have taken somewhat of a break from making music. Scarface went on to state that when artists like Dr. Dre and Marley Marl are no longer creating music the blueprint for artists to learn and study from begins to disappear.

“Dre, the best in the business, he said ‘fuck this mothafucka’ too. He is Hip Hop in my opinion. Marley Marl, he is Hip Hop, in my opinion,” said Scarface. “When you got those two people, those two masterminds, groundbreaking record makers not making music no more then you ain’t really got shit to go by. You ain’t got shit to study. You ain’t got shit to learn from.”

In his previous interview with Hard Knock TV, Scarface touched on a possible Geto Boys album and spoke on the production work of Rick Rubin.

New York Post Writer Bashes ESPN For Including 50 Cent In NFL Draft Coverage

2-50 Cent

The same New York Post that complained about Jay-Z’s involvement in the Brooklyn Nets now has a bone to pick with ESPN and 50 Cent.

During this year’s National Football League draft coverage, ESPN included 50 Cent as part of its broadcast. While many paid no mind to the choice, a New York Postwriter, Phil Mushnick, decried the use of the “offensive rapper.”

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]

“Last year, even more than the year before that and the year before that, college and pro football were overwhelmed with criminals and by criminality. Or, as TV folks call it, ‘distractions,'” wrote Mushnick. “Yet, the same men and women who report the arrests and the convictions while making ‘tsk, tsk, tsk’ have no better idea or instructions than to keep flooring it, sustaining the inescapable message that bad is good, but worse is even better.”

Mushnick continued, complaining about ESPN’s inclusion of 50 Cent in its draft coverage. “ESPN, now the home of double-murder investigation obstructionist Ray Lewis, opened its NFL Draft show Thursday with vulgar, gay-bashing, women-trashing, assault weapon-cherishing, N-word-spouting gangsta rapper 50 Cent making threatening noises and gestures while boasting that he is one bad mother.”

Despite Mushnick’s accusation that Fif is a homophobe, the rapper supported Frank Ocean’s apparent coming out last year.

This isn’t Mushnick’s first run-in with Hip Hop. Last year, the columnist suggested that the Brooklyn Nets should call themselves the “New York N—-s” due to Jay-Z’s then-involvement in the organization.

Suspect Indicted In Kenny Clutch Shooting Murder & Additional Charges

1-AmmarHarris

Kenny Clutch’s alleged killer could face the death penalty.

The Clark County District Court grand jury indicted Ammar Asim Faruq Harris on charges connected with the fatal drive-by shooting and fiery crash that killed three people on the Las Vegas Strip in February, among themrapper Kenny Clutch.

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]

FoxNews.com reports that Harris, 27, was also indicted on a charge of robbery and three felony sex assault counts in a 2010 case that had been dismissed last year.

The latter case doesn’t run afoul of double-jeopardy because the case had been dismissed without prejudice before a preliminary hearing, which allows prosecutors to seek new charges.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he is considering he death penalty in the Las Vegas Strip incident. The incident accuses Harris of three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and seven counts of discharging a weapon.

On February 21, Harris allegedly shot from a black Range Rover into a Maserati sports car that slammed into a taxi that burst into flames. Taxi driver Michael Boldon, 62, and passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, 48, were killed. The Maserati driver, 27-year-old Kenneth Cherry, Jr., a/k/a Kenny Clutch, died at a hospital. Another man suffered gunshot wounds and survived, five others suffered lesser injuries.

Scarface Says “Hip Hop Is White Now,” Blames Record Executives

scarface

Scarface also says there is “a conspiracy against the Blacks in Hip Hop” and explains how record label executives have “brainwashed a generation” of fans.

Scarface recently vented about his frustrations with record label executives and Hip Hop. In an interview withHardknock TV, Face shared his displeasure by speaking on how he feels race and racism affect the music that is released by record companies.

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]

“I feel like we losing it,” Face said in the clip. “I feel like the people that are in control of what Hip Hop does is so fucking White and so fucking Jewish and so they don’t give a fuck about what the culture and the craft really is about.”

Scarface paused at this point and said he wanted to clarify.

“Let me say this shit right because I want this to be as offensive as I can fuckin’ make it for these old-ass punks that’s running these record labels that’s in the powerful positions to dictate what the Black community hears and listens to. I fucking hate that shit. That shit pisses me off,” he added.

“There’s no fucking way that you can tell me that it’s not a conspiracy against the Blacks in Hip Hop. You put out fucking records that make us look stupid. You make us look dumb. You brainwash a generation of Hip Hoppers with this fucking crud and then when these other rappers come out, splitting it down the middle, these other rappers’ shit sound like ‘Wow!’ Y’all look great!’ ‘Y’all look stupid!’ … Then mothafuckers start going over here and pretty soon, Hip Hop is White now.”

More from this interview, including Scarface’s praise for Kendrick Lamar, can be seen below.

Scarface has been rapping as a solo artist and group member with Geto Boys since the early 1990s. Scarface has also been in charge of Def Jam South in the past. Less than a year ago, Scarface spoke with HipHopDX’s current Editor-in-Chief Justin Hunte regarding his take on the new generation of emcees and Hip Hop. Speaking of this, he said, “I think that anything goes in Hip Hop these days. I blame everybody who came before right now, including myself, for the conditions of what it is. I think the people that came before me taught me and if I couldn’t reach nobody else, then I didn’t do my job. I should’ve been a little better about the way that I laid my blueprint down. So I have nobody to blame but myself for the conditions of Hip Hop today.”

Rapper Trina’s brother fatally shot, man arrested

trinabro

Miami-Dade Police said Tuesday night they have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of the brother of the famous female rapper Trina in northwest Miami Tuesday morning.

Ron Dobson (pictured below) faces a second-degree murder charge, police said in an arrest affidavit. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Jail records showed he was being held without bond Wednesday morning.

Residents said that the rapper’s brother Wilbrent Bain, who goes by the nickname “Gonk,” was shot and killed on Northwest 91st Street. Bain and the man who shot him were friends and  lived around the corner from each other at Northwest 91st Street and  24th Avenue, neighbors told NBC 6.

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]

The incident happened at about 9:35 a.m., according to police.

The two men had a dispute, and the victim began to get off his bicycle when Dobson took a firearm from his waistband and shot him multiple times, the affidavit said.

After he was read his Miranda rights, Dobson confessed to his involvement in the victim’s death, the affidavit said.

Bain lived his entire life in northwest Miami, where he is well known.

“Now, I’m hurt because this man is gone for no reason at all,” neighbor Demetrius Hammond said. “He was a close friend to me.”

“He’s a very good kid,” family friend the Rev. Gary Johnson said of Bain. “It’s unfortunate. It’s a terrible tragedy.”

Bain survived a shooting in 2008 and had a record of gun possession, burglary, drugs, and domestic violence involving strangulation, records showed.

Mutual friends said they think an ongoing fight between Bain and the man who shot him got out of hand Tuesday.

“It hit me hard because I just talked to him,” said a neighbor who only wanted to go by “Trimel.” “This killing has to stop. It has to. All of us grew up together and that’s just senseless.”

“We need to take our black folks back,” neighbor CJ James said. “All of us need to be united and come together.”

Trimel suggested easy access to weapons contributes to the violence.

“It’s a gun problem more than anything because anyone can just get a gun,” he said. “I guarantee if you walk around this neighborhood now I bet you you’ll get it.”

Drunk Kentucky rapper tased multiple times at traffic checkpoint

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — A popular rapper with Kentucky roots is in trouble with the law after allegedly resisting arrest at a traffic safety checkpoint over the weekend.
Kenneth Ryan Anthony, 35, attended Manual High School before becoming a member of the popular rap group Nappy Roots while attending Western Kentucky University.
He’s best known by his stage name R. Prophet.
On Monday night, April 23, he’s facing multiple charges, including assault on a police officer.

[expand title=”More MBiz” tag=”h2″]
As a member of the rap group Nappy Roots, and most recently, as a solo artist, his music skyrocketed to the top of the charts.
“He kept saying that he was R. Prophet. We had no idea who R. Prophet was,” Kentucky State Trooper Norm Chaffins said.
R. Prophet was arrested early Saturday morning, April 20, under his real name, Kenneth Ryan Anthony, after allegedly confronting troopers at a traffic safety checkpoint outside Elizabethtown.
“He took a defensive stance toward one of our troopers. He was told time and time again to put his hands behind his back. He refused to do that,” Chaffins said.
Eventually troopers used a Taser on him.
“The taser was doing its job, but it wasn’t affecting him the way we thought that it should. They were able to tase him a couple of more times,” Chaffins said.
Troopers say Anthony kept fighting.
“They finally tased him again and again; they got him in the back seat of the car. Once they got him in the back seat of the cruiser, he tried to kick the back glass out,” Chaffins said.
Troopers say he rammed his head against the interior of the car and bent the window frame.
“They had to use the seat belts of the interior of the cruiser to restrain his feet,” Chaffins said.
After a round of pepper spray, Anthony was finally subdued, taken to the hospital, and then booked in the Hardin County Jail.
We tried to reach Anthony for comment, but didn’t hear back from him.
He broke away from the group Nappy Roots to begin his solo career more than five years ago.
