Snoop Dogg Explains Reconciling With Suge Knight

SOURCE: {HIPHOPDX} Snoop Dogg explains that he had to be a “bigger man” in his situation with Suge Knight.

Snoop Dogg and Suge Knight had a storied history with one another, with the former leaving Death Row Records in the late ’90s on bad terms. But fans were surprised to see the two pictured recently in a club together in a snapshot posted to Snoop’s Instagram captioned with, “N d club wit Suge miss those death row days!”

During an interview with DJ Skee, the artist currently known as Snoop Lion addressed the picture and how he wanted to be a “bigger man” in the situation.

“I think time heals all wounds,” he said. “And then being a bigger man and being one who accepts responsibility and right or wrong, I like saving lives, I don’t like to take lives. If that means putting my hand out saying I’m wrong, I apologize and we be cool, I’ll do that as opposed to me going behind my back, pulling a gun out and getting somebody or me doing something vicious to you.”

Snoop Lion is currently prepping the release of his upcoming album Reincarnated, dropping April 23rd. The LP is set to feature guest appearances from DrakeChris BrownBusta Rhymes and more.

Sway Speaks On Kanye West Giving Him His First TV, Says The Rapper Didn’t Tell The Whole Story

Sway Kanye West_03-06-2013

SOURCE: {HIPHOPDX} Sway confirms that he did receive a TV from Kanye West, plans on telling the full story on Rap Fix Live.

Chi-town rapper Kanye West was quick to voice his opinion on MTV’s Hottest MC’s In The Game List when it was revealed that he only secured the number seven spot on the coveted list. After sharing his thoughts on his placement during an interview with DJ Enuff, Kanye later called out radio host and MTV personality Sway Calloway and shared that he gifted Sway with his first ever television.

Earlier today (March 6th) on Sway In The Morning, the radio host confirmed that Kanye did in fact give him a TV, but revealed that there’s a lot more to the story.

“That very TV, today, I still have that TV he’s talking about,” said Sway. “Yeah, but it’s a lot about this story that Kanye West did not reveal. There’s more to the story ladies and gentleman. Typically, I don’t bring stuff to the surface. I protect relationships. Today, I’m going to bring that very TV that Kanye West was talking about to Rap Fix. And I’mma sit it on the set and let that TV co-host the show with me and I’m gonna tell the entire story of my first TV courtesy of Kanye West.”

Sway also went on to breakdown all that goes into creating the Hottest MC’s In The Game List, a list that is crafted by the MTV Hip Hop Brain Trust.

“I don’t vote. I created the list. I created the whole concept and I thought after time it wouldn’t be right for me to vote for this very reason,” Sway explained. “What you’re hearing Kanye say. Because I’ve been so apart of a lot of different careers with a lot of artists, including Kanye, that I know when I vote people get really emotional about how I may feel…This is how we came out. We averaged out everybody’s list and made it one master list. People came up with their own ideas of who their top 10 is. We made it into one master list and then we started debating. Not everyone on the table agreed with every number of every artist.”

Today’s episode of Rap Fix Live will feature appearances from Lil Kim and Talib Kweli and will air at 4 P.M. on MTV Jams and on the Rap Fix Website.

The Funky Bunch Wants To Reunite With Marky Mark Wahlberg

funkybunch

SOURCE: {HIPHOPWIRED} Quick, name all the members of Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch not named Marky Mark. We’ll wait.

Don’t feel bad.

Anyway,  two of the members are looking to reunite with the rapper turned AQUAhydrate promoter and actor. For real.

Reports TMZ:

Just a few days ago, 41-year-old Mark reportedly told a UK magazine he “might” get the old band back together … but, “I’ve just got to find the right time.”

Now, 2 of the Bunch’s former members — Terry Yancey (aka DJ T) and Hector Barros (aka “The Booty Inspector”) — tell us … “Our initial reaction was that it would be amazing if he were to want to reunite with the group.”

So far, the guys say there have not been any official conversations between the two sides … but tell us a reunion has been something they’ve been thinking about for years.

“We always had the want of getting back together as a group (Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch). But once Mark’s acting career took off it became obvious it wasn’t going to happen.”

The guys say they reached out to Marky Mark in 2008, but he respectfully declined — “He expressed that he would love to be on tour doing music again, but he felt he was too far removed from it.”

First off, it’s 2013 and using the name “The Booty Inspector” just isn’t going to fly. No shots.

Interestingly, the story also mentions that the Funky Bunch still performs to this day. Who knew?

Holla in the comments if you’ve been to a Funky Bunch concert and let us know if you’re hoping this reunion happens. Seriously, no shade.

Murderer of Original 50 Cent Wanted For Triple Homicide

50CENTKILLER

SOURCE:(AllHipHop News) Julio Acevedo is wanted for allegedly murdered a pregnant woman and her husband in a hit-and-run accident and was already a murderer before that unlucky incident.

Acevedo is also the man who murderede Brooklyn gangster Kelvin Martin, better known as the original “50 Cent”.

According to police reports, the 44-year-old was allegedly speeding in a 2010 BMW at double the speed limit and crashed into a cab with Nachman and Raizel Glauber along with their unborn child on Sunday (March 3rd).

The 2010 BMW after the crash

Williamsburg photographer Shimon Gifter was on the scene and told the New York Postthat Acevedo returned to the crash site after initially fleeing once helped out the mangled BMW:

“It was absolutely freezing, and this guy was wearing a sweater, smoking a cigarette. He looked very nervous. He just looked at the crash and went back the same way he came, up Kent Avenue. He just disappeared.”

The Hassidic Jewish couple died in separate hospitals as Nachman passed away from head injuries at Beth Israel Medical Center and Raizel was sustained long enough for doctors at Bellevue Hospital to deliver a C-section before she eventually died. The newborn baby died the following day (March 4th) on what would have been his 21 year old mother’s 22nd birthday.

Acevedo was arrested a few week prior on February 17th at 3:15 A.m. for drunk driving in a separate BMW.

His rap sheets extends past drunk driving and includes drug possession, reckless endangerment, robbery and the infamous 1987 murder of the original “50 Cent” which he served over a decade for in prison.

SOURCE: {HIPHOPWIRED}While the pictures of Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose’s newborn boy are slow to trickle in, we are starting to get news of the lad’s family support system. Sebastian Taylor Thomaz’s godfather is none other than Jet Life rapper Curren$y Spitta.

Rose revealed the news via Twitter yesterday (March 4). “Yay! I’m so excited 4 Sebastian 2 meet his godfather @CurrenSy_Spitta today! This Lil boy has so much family & Love… It’s such a blessing,” she tweeted. Besides getting acquainted with his godson, Spitta and Wiz also played pool. He tweeted about an hour ago, “Ken and Ryu shall train young Bash in the ways of the fly….. He will be better than Akuma …..” Those areStreet Fighter II references, if you are confused.

A couple of weeks ago it was confirmed that the “Bash” tattoo that Wiz got on his forehead months ago was an early dedication to his first born. Although Wiz is clearly enjoying fatherhood, the new responsibilities undoubtedly put the release of his collaborative album with Curren$y—titled Live In Concert, which has gone from a mixtape to a proper retail album—in limbo.

Also worth noting, with a pair of father figures like these, the chances of young Bash not becoming a smoker of the finest cheeba is pretty much nil. Check out photos of Sebastian Taylor Thomaz (so far we’ve spotted hair and a tiny hand) in the gallery.

EXCLUSIVE: Grandmaster Melle Mel & Quadeer “MC Spice” Shakur Address WorldStarHipHop.com Petition

melle-mel

SOURCE: (AllHipHop News) On February 12, Quadeer “MC Spice” Shakur, the Minister of Information for the Zulu Nation, sent an open letter to Lee “Q” O’Denat, the founder and CEO of the video streaming website Worldstarhiphop.com, contending that the content on WSHH does not accurately reflect the true principles of Hip-Hop culture.

Now Hip-Hop pioneer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Grandmaster Melle Mel of the legendary rap group Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five has teamed with the Zulu Nation to pressure Worldstar to remove all references of “Hip-Hop” from their site.

Melle Mel and Shakur spoke with AllHipHop.com about the Zulu Nation’s ongoing petitionand boycott of WorldStar and other items they view are misrepresenting the foundation that the culture of Hip-Hop was built upon.

“I think Worldstarhiphop has given young people a platform to exhibit horrible behavior toward other young people and toward the community at large, and they promote it like that has something to do with Hip-Hop,” says Melle Mel.

“They know for a fact just using the word ‘Hip-Hop’ is going to garnish some attention,” says the Zulu Nation’s Shakur. “They know exactly what they’re doing.”

The Universal Zulu Nation began in New York City in 1973 as a way to counteract the gang culture that had infested urban neighborhoods. Founded by Hip-Hop icon DJ Afrika Bambaataa, the Zulu Nation is now an international organization with branches in countries like France, Japan, South Korea, South Africa and others.

Hip-Hop as a culture was created by artists like Bambaataa, The Furious Five, Coke La Rock, and DJ Kool Herc to stop inner-city gang violence amongst Black and Latino youth. The culture is transmited around the world by the four basic elements of DJing, emceeing, graffiti art, and break dancing, and the fifth element of knowledge.

“Hip-Hop came out of gang culture into the culture of music,” says Melle Mel. “That’s the greatest thing that Hip-Hop brought to the black community. It brought us out of an oppressive situation.”

“People do know the difference between Hip-Hop culture and the word ‘Hip-Hop’ that has been loosely used,” says Shakur. “The only people who don’t know the difference unfortunately is the impressionable youth.”

Both Melle Mel and Shakur mentioned a recent video that was uploaded to WSHH as an example of the improper acts being exhibited by young people in the name of “Hip-Hop” that they feel are being promoted by WorldStar.

In the particular video, a teenager is forced to strip naked as another individual beats him with a belt. Other people in the background can be heard laughing and seen tossing water on the victim. Three people have since been arrested by Newark, New Jersey police officers and charged with aggravated assault and robbery.

Melle Mel believes that WorldStar should also take responsibility for perpetuating violence like the one displayed in the video of the young man being whipped by a belt.

In many of the videos posted to WSHH the individual filming can be heard yelling “Worldstar” as they videotape various violent attacks including staged bouts between teenagers.

“Worldstarhiphop is literally breaking the law on a daily basis when they’re showing assaults, and that could have been considered child pornography,” says Mel. “They’re just throwing it up there like it’s something funny. They are going to be held responsible as far as the law is concerned.”

Beyond arguing that WorldStar is contributing to illegal acts being committed by young people, Shakur also takes offense to the idea that the website in any way represents true Hip-Hop culture.

“WorldstarHipHop has no respect, as far as I’m concerned, for our people and our music,” says Shakur. “If it was in fact just a site for what we call ‘entertainment’ then let it be known at the bottom of your page. Put some kind of disclaimer that you are not in fact involved in or a part of real Hip-Hop culture.”

As a member of the Universal Zulu Nation, Shakur promotes the four spiritual principles of Hip-Hop culture –  peace, unity, love, and having fun.

“Go to [Worldstarhiphop] and tell me if you can find any four of those at once,” urges Shakur. “If you are not abiding by the four spiritual principles, those are the core values of Hip-Hop culture, then you’re not a Hip-Hopper.”

“WorldStarHipHop has no more to do with Hip-Hop then FedEx has to do with the Federal Government,” adds Melle Mel.

WorldStarHipHop.com was started in 2005 by Queens native O’Denat, and has become one the most viewed video blog sites on the internet averaging between 1-2 million unique viewers every day. In March of 2012 it was ranked as the 269th most visited site in the United States, and reportedly earns over $2.5 million a year.

The website presents user submitted videos that include footage of fights, pranks, and comedy sketches as well as promotional videos from music labels and news clips from around the world. Music videos submitted by both established artists and independent artists are shown as well.

Grandmaster Melle Mel points out that the procedure for a user to submit music videos to WorldStar is different from the procedure to submit amateur videos of violent acts.

“If you call them and talk to them about a Hip-Hop video they’ll charge you to put that video up, but if you send them a video of you kicking someone’s ass or the booty videos, they’re throwing them up for free,” says Melle Mel.

“They are calling themselves Hip-Hop, and they’re not doing nothing for the culture except raping the culture in order to make money,” adds Shakur.

According to reports, a non-established artist has to pay $500 to submit a music video, $1,250 for mixtape/DVD trailers, and $2,500 a day for their video to be placed in the featured space at the top of the site.

While label-backed artists do not have to pay for their content to appear on Worldstar, the site does make a significant profit from corporate sponsored advertisements.

“[Corporations] understand that the culture can get a whole group of people to move,” says Shakur. “So our people are moved to shoot, kill, rob, and rape. Their people are moved to excel, excel, and excel all based on the premise of real Hip-Hop culture.”

A “video agreement” posted on WSHH states that once a user has submitted a video WorldStar has the right to use that video in form and to license it out to other parties:

By submitting the video, you hereby grant Worldstar Hip
Hop and its parent company, Worldstar LLC,("Worldstar")theirrevocable right and license to duplicate, broadcast,
exhibit, transmit and exploit the video, or to allow Worldstart to grant sublicenses to third parties to duplicate, broadcast, exhibit, transmit and exploit the video, on theinternet, television, mobile platforms or other media
throughout the world. You agree that Worldstar shall not berequired to make any payment to you or anyone else in
exercise of the rights granted in this Agreement, and
acknowledge that you shall receive valuable consideration in the form of placement of and promotion of the video.

Worldstar has faced legal issues concerning copyright infringement in the past. A March 2011 Vibe magazine exposé revealed that the site was temporarily shut down in January of that year after a user filed a copyright complaint because WSHH did not credit him as the video’s creator. Worldstarhiphop.com was then subsequently shut down by the site’s server for a time.

So far no one from WorldStar has responded to the Zulu Nation’s request to remove the word “Hip-Hop” from its name and its site, but the Zulu Nation plans to take further action if WSHH representatives do not respond to Shakur’s letter within 30 days, including reaching out to political leaders.

Shakur also says that O’Denat or anyone from WorldStar is welcome to attend the Zulu Nation’s upcoming 40th anniversary events to discuss what Hip-Hop culture is and what it isn’t. But until then Melle Mel and the Zulu Nation will continue its effort to recapture the term “Hip-Hop” from those using it to represent music, media, or actions that are going against the culture’s core principles.

“We are not going to let it go,” says Melle Mel.

“If it’s ours, let what’s ours be ours. And you just take yours and just do whatever you want to do with yours,” says Shakur. “Do it with yours, but don’t do it with ours.”

AllHipHop.com attempted to reach out to Lee “Q” O’Denat for a comment for this story. As of the time this article was published, he could not be located.

LL Cool J Says Discussing A Chris Dorner Movie Would Be “Disrespectful”

LLCoolJ304

SOURCE: {HIPHOPDX} LL Cool J is not thinking about staring in a possible movie about former LAPD officer Chris Dorner.

An accomplished actor and someone who bares resemblance to Chris DornerLL Cool J fielded questions recently about whether he would play the former LAPD officer in possible biopic.

Speaking with TMZ, LL said that talk over such a film would be “disrespectful,” wanting no part in the film’s creation at the moment.

“That’s not something to even talk about because there are families that suffered, people that died. And because of that, I think it would be disrespectful to them to … have this conversation about a film when people’s lives were on the line.”

Christopher Dorner commited suicide during a recent shootout with police. He was responsible for shooting attacks on police officers and their families in early February, which left four people dead and three wounded.

News: Wyclef Says Lil Wayne’s Not The New Pac: “No, No, No” [Audio]

wyclef-300x300-2010-09-27

SOURCE: {SOHH} Grammy-winning rapper/producer Wyclef Jean recently shared his reaction to Young Money’s Lil Wayne proclaiming himself as the new version of Tupac Shakur during an anti-Miami Heat rant last month

Having worked with both hip-hop artists, Clef said Pac and Weezy are their own entities and incomparable.

“Once again, that’s his opinion,” Clef said when asked about Weezy declaring himself the new Pac. “At the end of the day, that’s his opinion. He can feel that. Personally, I had a chance to be in a room with 2Pac and he’s a character by himself. [Do I see a resemblance?] No, no, no. I see Lil Wayne in a league by himself. I see 2Pac in a league by himself. 2Pac reminded me a little bit of the Fugees in this sense, if you pick up the Fugees’ first album, after we got that check from the record company, the album was called Blunted On Reality, the first song on the album, we was talking about, ‘We black folks ain’t taking this sh*t from the Ku Klux Klan no more.’ It’s a young generation and f*ck the KKK. Before you blow up, the fact you don’t know if you’re going to make it and your first statement is just based on the vibe.” (Shade 45)

Clef also acknowledged how today’s kids, including his daughter, may view Weezy as the modern day Pac.

So with 2Pac, that’s the vibe I get. That entire establishment, I’m talking about his first joint — having the chance to be in the studio with Lil Wayne and around him during a video shoot, I think he has his own aura and his own energy. His whole energy. Now if you ask me daughter that? She’s going to have a whole different vibe because in her time, that’s her 2Pac because she ain’t ever meet 2Pac.” (Shade 45)

Last month, Wayne raised eyebrows by declaring himself the new Shakur.

“Y’all love these n*ggas so I’m gonna let y’all know why [I don’t like the Heat]. The Miami Heat told [the arenas] to ban me. So I say f*ck, I’m still going to come out here and party — when I say ‘F*ck,’ y’all say ‘NBA’. F*ck! When I say ‘F*ck,’ y’all say the Miami Heat. F*ck! … I ain’t 2Pac, I’m the new Pac. Holla at cha boy.” (YouTube)

A couple years ago, the Young Money leader revealed he got into tattoos because of the late West Coast legend.

“I have no problem with people going and getting a billion tattoos,” Weezy said in a video. “But why are you doing it? I know my first tattoo I got, I got because my dad died. I was 14 years old and I knew, not for nothing, God forgive me, I did want to represent my dad in a way but I knew that, ‘Man, I could get my first tattoo at 14 if I asked my mom, ‘Can I go get my dad’s name?’ She’s not gonna be against that.’ … The next tattoo that I got said ‘Original Hot Boy’ with a star…Then I went and got my tat across my stomach ’cause I wanted to be like Tupac. I got my [stomach] tattoo because I wanted to be like Tupac and at the time, I would tell the tattoo dude that’s why I was getting it.” (Derick G)

Ja Rule To Be Released From Prison In July

ja-arrest

SOURCE: {HIPHOPDX}Ja Rule will once again be a free man this summer.

Ja Rule is back on the road to being a free man.

According to Associated Press, the former Murder Inc. rapper will be released from prison on July 28th. The annoucement comes in the wake of last week’s news that he left state prison in central New York after serving most of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession and went straight into federal custody for charges stemming from a tax evasion case.

Ja is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center for prisoners awaiting court dates or have short terms left on their sentences.

The emcee was initially pinched in 2007 on a gun charge outside of New York’s Beacon Theater. He began serving his two-year sentence in June 2011, and a judge ruled that he could concurrently serve that sentence and another for tax evasion. His lawyer recently said that Ja is excited to be released from prison so he can pay back his $1.1 million debt to the government.

“Many people are looking forward to experiencing his talent again,” said defense attorney Stacey Richman, who also noted that he’s looking forward to his daughter’s graduation. “He’s a devoted father.”
