(AllHipHop News) Frank Ocean was nervous making his first Grammy acceptance speech. The Dream was overzealous at finally making a complete Grammy acceptance speech. Jay-Z was Jay-Z. Sometimes being Jay-Z means you effectively takeover social media for moment.

According to Mashable, the acceptance speech for “No Church In The Wild” generated more than 116,400 tweets per minute.

Jay-Z won three golden gramophones last night for “N****s in Paris” (Best Rap Song/Best Rap Performance) and “No Church In The Wild” (Best Rap/Sung Collaboration). Shawn Carter assisted Justin Timberlake in his return to the Grammy stage by helping the crooner perform their song “Suit & Tie”.

For an encore presentation, the duo performed the song again at a Grammy afterparty at The Palldium

While the music industry was celebrating itself, Jay’s collaborator on those Grammy-winning songs, Kanye West was out in Brazil with Kim Kardashian and Will Smith.

Kanye West’s High School Teachers Reflect On His Success

4-Kanye_West-hhdx

Long before Kanye West became one of Hip-Hop’s most polarizing figures, he was just a student at Polaris High School in Chicago’s Oak Lawn suburb. Following his big night at the Grammys, Jim Williams of CBS 2 Chicago took a trip to the G.O.O.D. Music rapper’s alma mater to speak with some of his former teachers to get a feel for how Yeezy was in his yesteryears.

According to the accounts given, the accomplished rapper and producer has always been outspoken and emphatic about his dreams of superstardom.

Marilyn Gannon, who was West’s physical education teacher, recalls him saying “He was going to be best rapper in the whole world,” to which she often replied “Ok, Kanye, now you can go get in line,” she said laughing.

Kanye’s former science teacher Carol Baker credits much of his success to his late mother Donda West, who she says “was the kind of mom who would pull him by the ear and drag him down the hallway if necessary,” though she never saw her do it.

Baker, who had the support of Ms. West, a professor at Chicago State University, continued “She was making sure he was getting the education he needed to be successful.”

As most know, Kanye West has reached the iconic status he shot for so long ago. He recently flexed his star power when he opted to vacation to Brazil with girlfriend Kim Kardashian, rather than attend last night’s Grammy Awards.

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul Warns Justin Bieber About Syrup Use

2-djpaul_10-15-2012

DJ Paul says that syrup is “dangerous if you do too much of it.”

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul is no stranger to codeine syrup. In fact, he and the rest of Three 6 Mafia released the popular single “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” in 2000.

In an interview with TMZ, Paul was asked about Pop singer Justin Bieber’s alleged lean use. “Man, I like Justin Bieber. I’m a fan. I can’t say don’t do [sizzurp] because I did my rounds with it,” said Paul, before adding a caveat: “But I stay away from it these days because I had a lot of friends that passed away from it.”

“It’s dangerous if you do too much of it.” He added, “But everything’s dangerous if you do too much of it. Sex. Even water. Jump in the ocean, that’s a lot of water. You might die. Too much of anything is dangerous.”

“They young dudes,” said Paul of Bieber and his friends, who include Young Money’s Lil Twist. “It’s just a phase they’re going through. I was the same when I was younger. Just a little more dangerous.”

DJ Screw and Pimp C are among the notable deaths connected with the use of syrup.

Rick Ross Makes First Public Appearance Since Drive-By Shooting, Remains Silent

rick-ross

Rick Ross steps out in Los Angeles, California after last week’s assassination attempt.

Rick Ross has remained decidedly silent about his brush with death after he crashed his Rolls Royce into a building following a drive-by shooting.

Now, for the first time since the incident, Ricky Rozay stepped out in Los Angeles, California, though he remained silent as a TMZ cameraman followed him and asked questions about if he had any information on who he thinks may have tried to take his life.

Though he seemingly ignored the pap’s questions, he smiled while biting a cigar when asked to comment on 50 Cent alleging that the whole situation was “staged.”

While Ross has been silent on the matter, several of his associates have confirmed that he’s in good spirits including WaleGunplayMeek Mill and Pusha T. “Freeway” Ricky Ross spoke with HipHopDX last week and said that he wasn’t surprised that the rapper was put in such a scenario.

Los Angeles Promoter Suing Lil Wayne Over Assault With A Skateboard

1-lilwayne_12-21-2012

A promoter is suing Lil Wayne after one of his bodyguards reportedly assaulted him with a skateboard.

It looks like Lil Wayne is back in legal hot water over an alleged assault with a skateboard.

In a recent report from LA Weekly, it appears that Los Angeles promoter Alfredo Marino is preparing to sue Weezy over a reported assault. Marino claims that in May 2012, a member of the YMCMB rapper’s entourage hit him over the head with a skateboard.

Marino recalls that he saw Wayne and his entourage skating in Los Angeles, and approached them with the hopes of getting his picture taken with the rapper. After repeated requests, Marino says that Wayne became angry and ordered one of his bodyguards to attack him.

“I was star-struck,” Marino told LA Weekly. “I was like ‘Cool, cool, cool!’…[his bodyguards] started tripping and saying, ‘I told you that Lil Wayne does not want to be bothered.’ I told them I have taken pictures of tons of people and I just want to show my friends that I saw Lil Wayne. They started calling me a ‘groupie’ and I said, ‘I ain’t no groupie’…Lil Wayne had enough, I guess, and he rolled up on a skateboard and he said, ‘Alright motherfucker, you want to take a picture like a groupie? Like a little bitch? Like a little girl? Is that what you want?'”

He continued, “I couldn’t believe he was telling me this. I actually started laughing. I didn’t take it seriously. I told him I just wanted a picture and that I’m a promoter. But he said, ‘I don’t want to hear that shit. You’re nothing but a groupie bitch to me.'”

It was following this exchange that Marino says one of Wayne’s entourage picked up a skateboard and hit him over the head with it, knocking him unconscious. He was later treated at a nearby hospital for a concussion and vertigo.

“Honestly, I’m not trying to be a millionaire for getting smacked over the head,” Marino said. “I want him to realize that there are fans out there, tons of fans out there and this is the way he’s going to treat them?…I’m a big Hip Hop fan, and I loved Lil Wayne’s music. Now I hate his music. But I’m kind of like in the zone that everywhere I go I see Lil Wayne. I see him on TV. I hear him every damn day on the radio. I can’t get away from this guy. It disgusts me.”

In an earlier report from DX, Wayne was quoted as having told Marino that, “Don’t you know all it takes is a word and these motherfuckers are going to fuck you up?”

This isn’t the first time the rapper’s entourage has been accused of assault. Last year, Weezy’s bodyguards were accused of attacking a photographer in Miami while the rapper was skating.

Wale Thinks Media Is “Perpetuating” Rick Ross’ Drive-By Shooting

wale_01-07-2013

Wale says he hates jokes about Rick Ross’ shooting and believes “the media is perpetuating a lot of things.”

Recently, Rick Ross was targeted in a shooting. During the incident, Ross managed to escape but crashed his Rolls Royce in the process. 50 Cent, Ross’ longtime rival laughed about the incident and said it looked staged. Now, one of Ross’ MMG artists and friends Wale is speaking out about the incident.

“I think everything, the whole thing, has been blown up,” he said in an interview with 94.5. “I think the media is perpetuating a lot of things. God forbid, if something happens to anybody, they’re gonna be playing people’s records all day.”

Wale continued, saying he had to unfollow people on Twitter who were joking on the day the shooting news broke.

“It’s a joke to y’all because y’all see him on TV everyday but what if that was your friend? That’s my friend. I was talking to him last night about the football game. So, what y’all think is a joke is somebody’s health. I know his children. God forbid something happens. And I just lost one of my brothers so I don’t even play around with that stuff. I don’t play.”

Wale’s interview can be seen below.

Ross had been the target of several death threats for some time before the shooting. The shooting highlighted just how much danger he’s been in. Ross has now reportedly hired a 24-hour armed security team.

Uncle Luke Questions Rick Ross’ Gangster; Tells Rick Ross “Squash Your Beef”

screen-shot-2013-02-06-at-12-03-33-pm

SOURCE:(AllHipHop News) 2 Live Crew front man, Uncle Luke, now one of Miami’s most renowned community service heroes, recently wrote an open letter in the Miami New Timesto Maybach Music Group founder Rick Ross.

As part of his series with the Miami New Times called, “Luke’s Gospel,” Luke warned  Rick Ross about the dangers that accompany touting a gangster lifestyle.

Recalling Ross’ most recent scare after being shot at in Ft Lauderdale, Florida just a few weeks ago, Luke recommended that Ross ends all his beef with the Gangsta Disciples and pointed out that record labels are steering away from artists surrounded with security issues.

“You have the Gangster Disciples breathing down your neck because you’ve named-dropped Larry Hoover,  the gang’s founder, in your music.” Uncle Luke said of Rick Ross’ track “BMF.”

The two have a brief history both being from Miami and on French Montana’s song “Pop That” Rick Ross shouts out Uncle Luke saying, “Shout out to Uncle Luke, we the 2 Live Crew.”

Despite the shout out, Luke also questions Rick Ross’ past with respect to drug trafficking and the authenticity of his street credibility.

“Hip-Hop has a rich history of college guys who never committed a crime rapping about moving kilos of cocaine and taking out snitches. Every gangster rapper takes on the role of a real hood legend to build up street cred. But I don’t want you to fall into the trap of believing you are really a gangster,” Luke said.

Check out the whole letter below:

Dear Rick Ross:

As someone who survived several rap beefs, I’m going to give you some advice. You need to seriously address the threats and attempts on your life. You have worked hard to become a big name in hip-hop. You’ve paid your dues and you’ve grown lyrically since the release of your debut album, Port of Miami, in 2006. You’ve arrived, buddy.

But all this gangster bullshit is jeopardizing your career. No club or arena is going to risk people getting shot. You can forget about doing any tours or CD signings. And if you can’t make money, watch how fast Warner Bros. Records turns on you. I know from experience how venues and the music industry would like to black ball you.

You have the Gangster Disciples breathing down your neck because you’ve named-dropped Larry Hoover, the gang’s founder, in your music. Unlike the record and book publishing industries, these bad dudes don’t understand the concept of public domain. They see you getting rich forever by rapping about their leader, and they don’t like it. That’s why they’re on YouTube talking about how you need to go see them and cut a check.

It’s a shame you can’t enjoy life without spending part of your earnings on heavy security or risking your freedom by purchasing an arsenal. Remember, that’s what landed T.I. and Lil Wayne in prison. You don’t want that to happen to you. However, those are the consequences of rapping about being something you’re not.

Hip-hop has a rich history of college guys who never committed a crime rapping about moving kilos of cocaine and taking out snitches. Every gangster rapper takes on the role of a real hood legend to build up street cred. But I don’t want you to fall into the trap of believing you are really a gangster.

Trust me, you don’t want to go out like Biggie Smalls or Tupac. It’s time you squash your beefs.

Nas Comments On Rap Beef, Says It “Sometimes Gets Out Of Hand”

nas

Nas recently appeared on “Chelsea Lately” to discuss rap beef, Hip Hop at The Grammy’s, and more.

As opposed to other genres of music, Hip Hop has become notoriously well-known for its various rapper beefs. No stranger to the topic of rap beef, Queensbridge’s own Nas appeared on Chelsea Lately to speak briefly on the topic with celebrity co-host Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

Nas seemed moderately fed up with beef in the genre as he spoke on Hip Hop being very standoffish and competitive at times.

“Once you say it, you gotta ride with it,” Nas revealed. “You gotta be true. Hip Hop is really standoffish. It’s really competitive. It’s really about who’s number one all the time. And it sometimes gets out of hand, definitely.”

The Life Is Good rapper also touched on Hip Hop’s decreasing recognition at The Grammy’s after he was asked how he felt about various rap awards being moved to the awards ceremony’s pre-show.

“It’s cool. I feel like it could be a little more loved though,” said Nas in regards to Hip Hop at The Grammy’s. “Hip Hop is making a lot of noise. It should get some more spotlight.”

EXCLUSIVE: Jewish Rapper Kosha Dillz Releasing Documentary Called “The Hustle to Happiness”

screen-shot-2013-02-05-at-6-39-57-pm

SOURCE:(AllHipHop News) New Jersey raised and Los Angeles based Jewish rapper Kosha Dillz has announced the development of a new documentary that will feature Mike Tyson, Katt Williams, The RZA, DMX, Matisyahu, Murs and many more.

Hustling his way on stages across the country, Kosha Dillz, born Rami Even-esh, has been on the road for years and now he’s pulled it all together in a documentary that will be funded by his Kickstarter campaign.

After setting a goal of $8,000, Kosha Dillz surpassed his goal, eclipsing the $10,000 mark. He is now completing the final filming and editing of his documentary, Kosha Dillz is Everywhere: The Hustle to Happiness.

“In 2011 I moved to LA and I drove my car out and I never went back home. Every since I have been documenting the whole process of trying to find happiness through my career with music and rap,” Kosha Dillz explained to AllHipHop.com. “We cut some trailers and then the years went on, and I got on the Super Bowl ad last year, so things are moving along and now we are really trying to have a scripted dramatic vibe to it so that we can really capture everything. I’ve linked with everyone from Mike Tyson to Katt Williams.”

Kosha’s journey gets crazy as he does just about anything he can do to make it to the big time, from sleeping in McDonalds to getting deported from the UK, to being in the BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher with DMX.

“I have won Summer Jam rap battles, become a video game character in NBA 2k11, played SXSW 5 times as an official artist, performed at Rock The Bells and Coachella, and toured the entire USA numerous times. I even had my song placed in a Super Bowl commercial. I have slept in McDonalds in Berlin, in my car in about every state in America, been deported from the UK and  got stranded in Greece when my passport got stolen,” Kosha explained of his many travels.

Now having hustled up songs with the RZA, Murs, Gangsta Boo, Rapper Big Booh, Wax and Matisyahu to name a few, Kosha is starting to put together a yet to be titled project that he feels will garner the attention of the masses.

“I’m an official artist for SXSW, I am going to run a Oye Vey showcase and the film is going to be going down there as well.  I have a couple of solo joints and videos with every song, just so people can try to get to know me better. I’m gonna be rapping my ass off and I think it’s going to cater to a larger audience.  I love the grind, I live the grind everyday.”

Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 2/3/2013

A$AP Rocky’s debut studio album “Long.Live.A$AP” slides down the charts, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis get a slight uptick with “The Heist.”

Now in his third week on the charts, A$AP Rocky continues to hold onto the top 20 with his debut studio album Long.Live.A$AP, which dips out of the top 10 with a decrease in sales. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are closing in on the Harlem, New York emcee with their independent debut The Heist, which creeps down a spot from last week but keeps selling strong on the strength of their chart-topping hit “Thrift Shop.”

The sole Hip Hop artist to make a splash on the charts was Da’ T.R.U.T.H., whose latest album Love, Hope & War sold just enough to land the Christian rapper’s latest in the top 100.

Check below to see who had the strongest week on the charts.

A$AP Rocky Lives Long On The Charts

A$AP Rocky has been selling strong. After making his name on the mixtape circuit over the past few years, the Harlem, New York native parlayed buzz from his breakout project Live.Love.A$AP – as well as appearances on T.I.’s Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head and Big Boi’s Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors – to score a chart-topping entry three weeks back. His first week at retail closed in on 140,000 copies sold, which was enough to beat out Kidz Bop 23 by 58,000 units.

After sliding from No. 1 to 7, the RCA/Polo Grounds continues to descend to No. 13 with 25,000 copies sold, distinctively less than the 38,000 he moved last week. The placement puts him between Local Natives’ Hummingbird and a compilation of tracks from the 2013 Grammy nominees, and ups his overall sales to 201,000 copies. Rocky, who responded to Tyler, The Creator’s criticism of “Fuckin’ Problems” last week, has received critical acclaim for the LP, which features guest appearances from DrakeKendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, and has spawned a pair of singles from the album including “Goldie” and “Fuckin’ Problems,” which was recently certified gold.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Hold On Strong With The Heist

That Macklemore and Ryan Lewis reign just won’t let up. After bowing at No. 2 with The Heist last October with 78,000 copies sold, the Seattle-based duo has continued to thrive thanks to the success of their now double-platinum-certified single “Thrift Shop,” which has resided atop the charts for the past few weeks. This week, the album dips just a bit from No. 14 to 16, moving an additional 21,000 copies for a total tally of 313,000, which means the LP is slowly moving towards the gold-certified mark.

The group also recently shot a video for “Can’t Hold Us,” which could keep the momentum of The Heist sustained..

Court documents revealed that Harris and two other men, Ronald Walker and Tyrus Harris, were charged with trafficking $2.5 million worth of heroin and cocaine from 2005 and 2012.

Frank Ocean Reportedly Called A “Faggot” During Chris Brown Fight

1-2-Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean told cops that Chris Brown also threatened to shoot him.

Details continue emerging from the fight between Chris Brown and Frank Ocean last week at a Los Angeles, California recording studio.

According to TMZ, Ocean told police that he was called a “faggot” during the altercation shortly before Brown threatened to shoot him. The Odd Future crooner was unclear who flung the homophobic epithet.

The fight, which lasted for two to three minutes, began after Brown punched Ocean after the latter said that he took his parking spot. Brown tried to shake Ocean’s hand, a gesture that he refused. It was then that Brown punched him in the face, prompting two members of Brown’s entourage to help him by backing Ocean into a corner where they tried to kick him. Ocean then heard someone call him “faggot” and Brown made a threat on his life, stating, “We can bust on you too!”

Ocean received a cut on his left temple and right index finger. He later took to his Tumblr page to state that he’s not pressing charges.

Ocean, whose studio debut Channel Orange was recently certified gold, will perform at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
