50 Cent Dismantles ‘The Money Team,’ Renames Promotion Company

The feud between 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather continues.

This time, 50 Cent announced on Twitter that he is no longer with The Money Team. While he didn’t go into details of what led to his decision, he did allude to the fact that it had something to do with money.

50, who became a licensed boxing promoterearlier this year, originally formed the company TMT Promotions with Mayweather. They signed Yuriorkis Gamboa to the company in late July. 50, later, signed Manny Pacquiao to a deal.

But now, 50 announced the company is no longer and that future promotions will be handled through SMS Audio. 50 offered Money Team merchandise at a discounted rate on Twitter. He even went so far as to sell his team jacket for $1. Ouch!

There have been plenty of rumors circulating about 50 and Mayweather’s failed relationship. Some believe it was over an alleged affair between Floyd’s fiancée Shantel Jackson and 50, while others believe it was because the New York rapper signed Pacquiao to the promotioncompany.

Gucci Mane Says Nicki Minaj & French Montana “Ain’t Keep It Real”

Gucci Mane lashes out at Nicki Minaj for changing with the fame.

Gucci Mane has already spoken out against Young Jeezy and Yung Joc, and he’s adding a few more names to the list. During an interview with Hot 107.9, the Southern rapper said that Nicki Minaj “know she ain’t keep it real” after he helped her build her name as an artist and then lose touch with those who were with her from the start of her career.

“When she came to Atlanta she gave me a shout out, said I helped her in her career, but at the end of the day I just think a lot of times you keep it real with somebody, you can’t expect them to keep it real with you,” he said. “I told you man this industry, people want to be famous, people forget how to keep it real and forget the people that helped them get to where they at. As soon as the money start coming in… I tip my hat to Nicki for being hard worker, but at the same time, she know she ain’t keep it real.”

He also turned his attention to French Montana, stating that he took a similar approach once he started drawing more attention. “French Montana know he ain’t keep it real,” he said. “My thing is, I ain’t going out of my way to even tell somebody they ain’t real or they fake or they’re lame. That’s got nothing to do with me. When it start spilling into my business and to my affairs, I’m a vocal person, I usually speak on them.

Ice Cube Details New Song “Everythang’s Corrupt” & Album, Praises Kendrick Lamar

Exclusive: Nearing the completion of “Everythang’s Corrupt,” the West Coast legend promises fans “vintage Ice Cube” on his tenth album and proclaims Kendrick as a “true artist.”

In an illustrious career that spans over two decades and half a dozen facets of the entertainment industry, Ice Cube’s loyalties will also reside in Hip Hop. Ever since breaking mainstream ground with Straight Outta Comptonand former group N.W.A., the veteran Los Angeles rapper has been an adamant fixture in challenging the status quo, and the same should hold true for his upcoming album Everythang’s Corrupt. Lead by the title-track,Everythang’s Corrupt will shed light on today’s cultural hypocrisy in a way only Cube could illustrate.

Speaking with HipHopDX last week, Ice Cube discussed the approach he took in making Everythang’s Corrupt and why he’s refrained from littering his album with unnecessary features. A gatekeeper of the West Coast scene, Cube also commended Kendrick Lamar’s latest efforts and explained how N.W.A. set the tone for more creative freedom within the industry.

HipHopDX: You’re fittingly releasing the record and video “Everythang’s Corrupt” from the new album by the same name on the eve of the 2012 election. It has the tagline in the hook, “For my birthday, buy me a politician.” Was it a conscious decision to open up your new album campaign with this record?

Ice Cube: You know, this record is for the political heads. This to me is more a leak at the right time, in time, to drop it. We could have dropped a more catchier tune, but the time wouldn’t have been right. The time is right for “Everythang’s Corrupt,” so that’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to drop it at this point and time, and then come with a visual to highlight what we’re saying in the music.

DX: Hearing Rage Against The Machine’s guitarist Tom Morello shredding in the background really brings a raw yet refreshing vibe to the record that I think wouldn’t have been present if it were just simply done on a computer program. With both of you sharing similar identities when it comes to socio-political views, what took so long for you guys to hook up on a track?

Ice Cube: It’s just one of those things where we ain’t really cross each other’s path. I’m one of those artists who thinks we have to get a bond before you can really jump in there and do something cool. I haven’t really been into record companies throwing things together, so that’s why things don’t happen. He’s cool so it was only right, and I’m hoping we can do more stuff.

DX: With your last album I Am West released in 2010, and looking at some of the other track list titles you have for this album, “One For The Money,” “The Big Show,” “Can I Get Some Of That West Coast Shit,” what else has O’Shea Jackson seen in the last three years that you’re bringing to the table withEverythang’s Corrupt?

Ice Cube: Well you know, I got a song on there called “Dominate The Weak,” which is really what you feel sometimes from being in America. Sometimes it feels like a police state in a lot of ways. I wrote that record when a lot of that whole 99% thing was going on and the crackdowns that were starting to happen. It just kind of made me think of that record. That’s one of those political songs to me that’s vintage Ice Cube.

DX: Earlier this year you said the album was a little over halfway done. With the projected scheduled release date for January 2013, who else have you gotten a chance to work with on this new album?

Ice Cube: Really, a lot of the producers that I’ve been working with, and I got my sons [OMG and Doughboy] on the record. When I go to do a record, the last thing I’m thinking about is who else I can work on it with. I really think I’m a throwback when it comes to that. I think when you buy an Ice Cube record, that’s what you should get. I don’t really like doing these compilation-type records, I don’t really like hearing them either. That’s what I try to do when I do a record, to make sure it’s my internal thoughts and feelings and really getting a slice of me and not just a bunch of features.

DX: Defintely. I think you can say the same thing about a buzzing artist from the West Coast in Kendrick Lamar. It’s clear as a veteran emcee who’s been an integral part of laying down a foundation for Los Angeles rappers, that’s still evident today as well with Kendrick. He’s even named Death Certificate as one of the essential albums he listened to growing up. With that said, how does it feel to see someone like Kendrick successfully maneuvering through the industry in an honest manner?

Ice Cube: It’s great, man. It’s great for true artists who are not people who are chasing the charts or worried about who’s on the Billboard [charts]. You can respect an artist like that. We are like painters; you either do it because you love it or you do it ‘cause you’re trying to get rich. I think people can see that, and they reward true talent. When true talent steps on the scene, it should be rewarded, whether it’s deep music that grips your soul or it’s just booty-shaking music. If you’re a true original, you should be recognized and applauded to reap the benefits more than these one-hitter-quitters that you see.

DX: It’s crazy to think that Kendrick was only a few months old when N.W.A. And The Posse was released in 1987, and yet that sound is still relevant today. It speaks to your longevity.

Ice Cube: Yeah. It’s a thing where N.W.A. changed the trajectory of a lot of pop culture to the point where it still lingers, just how ferocious that music was and how unforgiving the music was. To me, there’s a reason why N.W.A. is considered the world’s most dangerous group. N.W.A. really set the tone for shows like The Sopranos or The Osbournes, even stuff like Family Guy, just how far they take it on TV. I don’t think a reality show would ever get made without N.W.A. People cuss, [they] say “Fuck, shit” and it’s okay, bleep it. Let people be themselves, let artists be themselves. You don’t have to be fake to be a star.

Is This The Future of Hip-Hop?

We recently stumbled upon a new act called Detox Junky:

Detox Junky is a collaborative music project with contributions from a wide variety of artists with an even wider variety of influences and musical backgrounds.

Detox Junky’s sound combines heavy multi-genre production with a raw vocal element and strong hip-hop and alternative undertones, fusing multiple styles together in a way that stays true to each unique element.

While the project itself is based in Seattle, Detox Junky features vocalists, producers, DJs, musicians and contributors of all kinds from around the world, resulting in a style of music that can only be described as “Hip-Hop Fusion.”

Sometimes the inspiration of an album outweighs its execution, but that is not the case here. This album is damn fun and totally infectious. The old school is large and in your face, while huge grooves and samples, mix with grinding rocker tunes and screaming guitar riffs.

But on top of the nostalgic, groove atmosphere, there is much more going on here. First and foremost, the album has vision, structure and ambition that hasn’t been seen in hip-hop for a while. It moves from an old school to inventive new stuff, folding into down-tempo and classic hiphop re-workings.

It’s a breathtaking musical span to attempt for any band, but Detox Junky pulls it off, proving a pretty tidy sense of melody and flow, amidst so much musical havoc. Where the mix of rock, hip hop and electronica blends to generate an awesome mix.

Detox Junky bring rap back from the hollows of a money hungry, flashy and empty substance limelight, to a tastier, grittier and funkier sound. Their tracks are progressive and innovative with creative samples and authentic old school backbone beats pumping the momentum.

Detox Junky’s latest tracks, which will ultimately lead to a brand new album, is an explosive combination of hip-hop and rock’s finest and has more energy than an atomic bomb. Standout tracks include, a cover of The D.O.C.’s 1989 hit song “Its Funky Enough,” the Black Sabbath influenced, “Iron Man” with its screaming guitar riffs. The string padded “Alive N Kickin,” “For Evil” and “Higher.” But just about every song is listenable and enjoyable, thanks to the caliber of both Detox Junky’s lyrical talents and the overall sound production.

The Detox Junky project shows some real talent, a great production, solid rhymes and grooves, all with an original approach.

This isn’t your average party hip-hop band, your average rap album, your average anything. It’s bold and fresh and it knows where it came from and more importantly, where its going.

Keep a look out for the upcoming album.

With a path of destruction from South Carolina to Maine, some are calling this one of the biggest hurricanes ever to hit the United States.

Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on our entire transportation system, in every borough and county of the region.”

Haiti has already accounted for 51 deaths thus far, as the storm hit on Sunday, but it is still early and the count is expected to unfortunately increase as rubble and debris are removed.

Judge Scolds Lil Wayne For Conduct In Deposition Video

Image

A judge doesn’t think Lil Wayne’s depositions are as funny as many others do.

Lil Wayne didn’t make it to court on Monday (October 29) because Wayne suffered “seizure-like symptoms” late last week.

Wayne was expected at the trial, as he was suing Quincy Jones III over a documentary about Weezy, which the emcee called a “scandalous portrayal.”

Instead, Wayne’s attorney stated he would play Wayne’s now-infamous deposition tapes for the jury – a proposition the judge was not in favor of, reports TMZ.

In the deposition tapes, Wayne is seeing being sarcastic and rude to the attorney deposing him, and even arguably threatening the attorney.

The judge referred to Wayne’s behavior on the tapes as “unreasonable conduct in the deposition” and “irresponsible behavior.”

Hip-Hop Halloween – Which Power Couple Did It Best?

Hip-Hop was in the Halloween spirit early this year, as many artists and socialites showed off their costumes at Halloween parties across the U.S. over the weekend!

Many of Hip-Hop’s top couples made it a date night and stepped out in their Halloween best alongside their better halves. Check out Diddy, who was dressed as Prince, and Cassie, who made a beautiful Cleopatra:

image

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian spent their first Halloween together as a couple and decided to go in semi-matching costumes. Kim went over the top in a mermaid get-up with a blonde wig, and Kanye was her Captain. Someone asked Kanye what he was dressed as, and he didn’t even know it was Halloween! Just joking, but you know Kanye just pulled something out of his closet and came up with that combination.

Big Boi hosted a Halloween party in the A dressed up as Darth Vadar, and his wifey matched his black and white fly with a Punisher costume.

Lil Wayne’s private jet was forced to land in Texas yesterday, where the rapper was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

40 Glocc Sues Game For Assault & Battery, Damaging His Reputation

Image

40 Glocc takes Game to court following the release of a video where he gets assaulted.

40 Glocc has filed suit against Game over a beatdown caught on tape and released earlier this year.

According to TMZ, Glocc filed suit over the July 7th incident that took place at a mansion in Hollywood, California. In the court papers, he says that he was leaving a party when he was jumped by Game and his 15-man entourage.

The suit claims that the video does not show that Game chased him with a gun and said, “Freeze or I’ma shoot, nigga.” As 40 tried to escape, Game pointed a gun at his chest and told him not to fight back or he would “end it right now.”

Glocc says he was beaten mercilessly and suffered major injuries to his right eye, ribs, kidneys, right shoulder and back. He also sustained wounds on his face, head, legs, arms and hands.

40 is suing for unspecified damages, claiming assault and battery. He also feels that he tarnished his reputation by portraying him as a coward in the clip.
