It’s election season, and while many Hip Hop artists have been relatively quiet as to their candidate of choice, a few emcees are finally speaking out. Now, according toXXL via Rolling Stone, rapper Snoop Dogg has thrown his weight behind President Barack Obama in the election.

In a recent press conference for his new documentaryReincarnation, the currently known at Snoop Lion stumped for President Obama in his bid for re-election. Snoop commended Obama’s policies over the past four years, saying that many of them helped undo much of the social and economic turmoil created by former President George W. Bush’s policies.

“Let me begin, Obama for four more years, man,” he said. “Bush fucked up for eight years, so, I mean, you gotta at least give him eight years. He cleaned half the shit up in four years, realistically. It ain’t like y’all gave him a clean house. Y’all gave him a house where the TV didn’t work, the toilet was stuffed up – everything was wrong with the house.

He continued, “He had to come in and get your thing together, then he knocked down our most hated, the most wanted, the one who had our terror on orange or red or whatever color it was on [Osama bin Laden] – he went and found him, the one Bush couldn’t seem to find, the one who seemed to fly away in the dead of night and all that…so give him [another] four years to get his thing together and finish this deal out. You heard what Clinton said. You loved Clinton, didn’t you?”

Chief Keef Denies Involvement In Murder Of Chicago Rapper Lil Jojo, Claims Twitter Account Was Hacked

Image

Days after Lil Jojo was gunned down, Chief Keef takes a completely opposite stance on the rapper’s death.

When Lil Jojo was gunned down earlier this week, Chief Keef simply laughed in response on Twitter. According to Keef, however, the tweets were not his own.

In a new set of tweets that have since curiously been deleted, Keef lamented Jojo’s passing, writing, “Man, been thinkin bout this chicago street shit a lot. My prayers go out 2 Jojo’s family on their loss.”

Keef then denied culpability in both the shooting and his earlier controversial tweets. “i didn’t know him but he young jus like me. i can assure everyone that i had nothin 2 do with this tragedy tho. my twitter acct was hacked.”

The Chicago rapper did a tweet addressing the situation:

My prayers go out to jojo’s family on their loss. He was young like me, out there trying to get it.

With the final message addressing the situation, Keef took the opportunity to plug his album:

since i was put in a messed up spot i think that i finna sign off this twitter shit for awhile or at least til my album drops on 11/27!

Image

Chief Keef laughs at the death of a fellow rapper, while Tyga launches a porn site. HipHopDX posted an editorial about Christianity and its connection to Hip Hop.

This week, Chief Keef put himself in a whole lot of trouble, laughing at the death of a fellow rapper and striking up some beef with Lupe Fiasco, who in turn announced his impending retirement. Tyga launched his new porn site, as well as an adult film in which he plans to appear and direct. Additionally, HipHopDX investigatedthe connection of Christianity to Hip Hop, exploring how some in the culture reject religious themes in music.

Chief Keef Laughs At Death Of Fellow Rapper, Threatens To Smack Lupe Fiasco

Chief Keef stirred up some trouble this week. The 16-year-old rapper took to Twitter following the death of contemporary Lil JoJo, with whom he had beef due to his affiliation with Lil Reese. Keef laughed at JoJo’s passing, writing, “Its Sad Cuz Dat Nigga JoJo Wanted To Be Jus Like Us #LMAO.” His sights soon turned to Lupe Fiasco, who had previously mentioned that he was fearful of the culture that Keef represents. From there, Fiasco tweeted that he was going to retire from the game, pointing to Keef’s behavior as a conduit to his reasoning. The stunt didn’t come without consequences: Keef, who later said he was hacked, is now being investigated by the Chicago police for his connection to JoJo’s murder, and Pitchfork pulled its video showing Keef being interviewed at a gun range.

Tyga Launches A Pornography Site, Plans To Direct & Appear In Adult Film

Tyga is expanding his entrepreneurial pursuits. This week, the Young Money rapper announced the launch of his adult website RackCityXXX.com, a play off his hit single “Rack City.” In addition to the site, which charges $24.95 per month in membership fees, Tyga plans on directing and appearing in his own pornography film Rack City: The XXX Movie, which will feature his original music and appearances from London Keyes, Eva Angelina, Havana Ginger, Kristina Rose, Jada Fire, Austin Taylor and more. “This movie really takes ‘Rack City,’ the song that I made, into the world of triple-X film. It’s a real movie that people will enjoy, and I’m proud of it,” he said of the film. “I just felt like now was a time that I wanted to be involved in the sexual part of it—how far can I actually go without actually doing porn?”

Editorializing Hip Hop’s Difficulty With Christianity

This week, HipHopDX posted a series of taboo subjects in the culture, focusing on race and the misnomer of Hip Hop as “black music,” as well as the obsession with the Illuminati. We also focused on Hip Hop’s struggle with accepting Christianity in music, honing in on rappers including MaseNo Maliceand up-and-comer Lecrae. Some grapple with the label of “Christian Rap,” but the editorial investigates the value of religion and its themes in relation to the culture. Read the full editorial here.

Jay-Z Discusses Occupy Wall Street, Says “I Don’t Know What The Fight Is About”

Image

Jay-Z opines on Occupy Wall Street by saying the message is confusing.

Though Jay-Z was photographed with Russell Simmons some months back wearing an “Occupy All Streets” t-shirt, Hov has revealed that he’s never backed the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Jay cited a lack of a central vision as the reason for his hesitation. “What’s the thing on the wall, what are you fighting for?” asked Hov in an interview with The New York Times.

“I’m not going to a park and picnic — I have no idea what to do,” said Jay, recanting what he said in a conversation with Simmons.

“I don’t know what the fight is about. What do we want? Do you know?” questioned Jay rhetorically of the movement.

The Brooklyn emcee continued, asking for specificity from the movement. “I think all those things need to really declare themselves a bit more clearly because when you just say that ‘the 1 percent is that,’ that’s not true,” said Jay. “Yeah, the 1 percent that’s robbing people, and deceiving people, these fixed mortgages and all these things, and then taking their home away from them, that’s criminal, that’s bad.”

“Not being an entrepreneur. This is free enterprise. This is what America is built on.”

Young Noble of the Outlawz Releasing New Album “Son of God”; Remembers Tupac on Anniversary of Shooting

Image

It was 16 years ago today (September 7) that iconic rapper Tupac Shakur was assassinated in Las Vegas, Nevada, following Mike Tyson’s fight with Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand.

Over a decade and a half later, Young Noble, the seventh and final member added to the Outlawz by Tupac himself, has announced that he will be dropping a project on November 13.

In commemoration of the passing and in honor of Tupac, Young Noble will release his new video for the song, “Son of God”, on September 13, the day that Tupac died.

“It’s just really a feeling I had, and I felt like people needed to hear it, but what I think I’m saying on it is relevant to the Outlawz to myself and to Hip-Hop in general, and so I put it out there and the feedback has been phenomenal,” Young Noble told AllHipHop.com of his “Son of God” record.

Although Tupac passed away on the 13, fans of the late West Coast legend will remember that he was actually shot on September 7.

Including the 13th day of the month, the rapper survived for seven days after the shooting incident, a period of time that ironically corresponds with his prophecy of the Makavelian 7 Day Theory.

“It’s a weird date for us; 16 years ago that was a crazy time in our life. Every year, we don’t forget it, the fans don’t forget it, and every year we try to make it a positive date, so I’m gonna drop the ‘Son of God’ video on that date,” Young Noble explained to AllHipHop.com.

Tupac borrowed from Machiavelli, a 16th century Italian philosopher who proposed staging one’s death to evade enemies and gain power. His book, Discourses Upon the First Ten Books of Titus Livy, said, “a prince who wishes to achieve great things must learn to deceive.”

Conspiracy theorists have been known to speculate on how and why Tupac decided to use the Makavelian 7 Day theory, and ultimately leading many of them to believe that Tupac is still alive.

Some claim that he faked his death to get away from his enemies or the Illuminati.

When asked how he came to the title of “Son of God” and what it means to him, Young Noble says he reverted to his roots and his teachings from Tupac.

“I think that God definitely has been coming through my pen to try to put some positive inspiration out to the people. It’s coming out like that, and I just wanted to put my heart and soul into the music and taking it back to the roots and really studying our history and everything that ‘Pac was trying to teach us,” Young Noble recalled.

“‘Pac was an ambassador of truth, and he represented hope, from getting shot, to shooting at police, and you know all his trials and tribulations, man. And for him getting locked up for stuff that he didn’t even do, and just coming out as a warrior. He wasn’t holding his head down, kept his head up high, and represented what he represented. He was an ambassador for truth, not just for the West or the East, but for the earth,” he added.

In addition to the album, Young Noble and DJ Outlaw will be releasing a mixtape that precedes the “Son of God” project called Outlaw Nation, set for release on October 15.

Busta Rhymes Recalls Tupac Accidentally Dissing A Tribe Called Quest

Image

Busta Rhymes says that Tupac inadvertently dissed A Tribe Called Quest at The Source Awards.

While The Source Awards may have gained infamy for its role in the beef between Death Row and Bad Boy Records, an incident at the 1994 ceremonies nearly led to a feud between two different crews from opposite coasts. In a recent interview with This Is 50’s Young Jack Thriller,Busta Rhymes recalls how Tupac Shakur accidentally insulted the members of A Tribe Called Quest.

Bussa Bus revealed that Tupac accidentally cut off Tribe’s acceptance speech for the Best Hip Hop Group of the Year at the ’94 Source Awards when he jumped the gun on his performance. The members of Tribe were initially ready to go to war with the Oakland rapper over the perceived slight, but tempers quickly cooled after Pac explained the misunderstanding to Busta. He added that Pac and Tribe had been attempting to coordinate a televised meeting on BET following the incident, but were unable.

“There was a time before The Source Awards were actually on TV, I was filming Higher Learning, we were staying in Oakwood Apartments in West Hollywood…[2Pac] was living in there, too,” he recalled. “The Source Awards happened – I think it was at the Paramount Theater…and Pac was on that award show [performing]. Tribe had got the award for Best Hip Hop Group of the Year. I don’t know if Pac’s people at the time knew that Tribe was still getting their award and still doing their acceptance speech, but they pressed play while they were doing their acceptance speech, so it looked like he went out there and started performing on some, ‘Fuck the award’ shit, ‘I’m just gonna do my shit on top of them niggas’…so it looked crazy from the front…it looked like a crazy disrespect to Tribe.”

He continued, “The beef started immediately and fortunately, it didn’t get to no physical shit, but I don’t know if too many people knew about this at the time when it went down or even after, but it was a big misunderstanding…me and Pac had a conversation about that, and Pac made it clear to me that he didn’t mean to do that, that it wasn’t his fault and he didn’t understand why or how it happened that way…Pac was actually trying to see how we could coordinate getting a public truce going on BET…I was actually trying to coordinate that and I was communicating to [Q-Tip] via Pac, Pac via Tip – the vibe was amazing. Everybody was like, ‘Yo, no doubt, no problem’…it just didn’t happen because of circumstances, obviously, and Pac passed before we got that to happen.”

Big Sean continued, saying that he started hearing positive feeback from a number oe people, including 2 Chainz. “Then I get a call a little bit later after that, and somebody told me that Hov is on the record and I was like, ‘damn,’ ” he said. “They were like Hov and ‘Ye hopped on it, so I’m thinking, ‘Ah, they’re probably gonna take my verse off even though I laced it’ — you know, the Throne, Kanye and Jay … but then I get the call like, ‘Nah, it’s you Kanye and Jay-Z.'”

Sean explained the conflicting feelings he had upon hearing the news. “I remember the first thing I thought was, ‘Damn, I’m excited as hell,” and then I was like, ‘Damn, I wish I ain’t have to do my verse first,” he added, laughing. “But I think it’s well-represented and it’s on the G.O.O.D. Music album and it’s on my next album too.”
