As previously reported, Chris Lighty was found dead last week, reportedly as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The event turned out to be something of a media circus, as cameras crowded around Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, which also hosted The Notorious B.I.G. and Aaliyah’s funerals.

LL Cool J, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, and Lloyd Banks were among those in attendance at the high-profile event.

Chris Lighty’s Family Seeks Second Opinion On Death

Image

Chris Lighty’s family is seeking a second opinion about the cause of death of the Hip-Hop mogul, who was laid to rest yesterday (September 5), in New York.

Stars like Russell Simmons, Sean “Diddy” Combs, LL Cool J, Missy Elliot and numerous others attended the funeral for Lighty, who ran Violator Management, and later, Primary Wave Management.

But Lighty was found dead last Wednesday (August 30), from on apparent suicide after an alleged spat with his wife in his Bronx apartment.

According to the Associated Press, the family has conducted a second autopsy using forensic pathologist Michael Baden.

Baden specializes in independent opinions on deaths and even testified in the O.J. Simpson trial.

The family is still awaiting the test results, but their recent comments to the press indicate that they do not believe Chris Lighty committed suicide.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, his ex-wife Veronica denied police accounts that there was an argument prior to Lighty’s suicide.

“My husband was too smart of a man. He was a genius. No smart man is going to leave his children for fighting with his wife,” Veronica Lighty told the Daily News “That makes absolutely no sense.

“We had a passionate relationship. We fought all the time,” Veronica said.

“This isn’t my brother. My brother was a strong person, is a strong person,” added Dave Lighty. “Nothing is adding up. I can’t get a direct answer from anybody…I understand there’s a process to be followed. I can’t even get clear answers from people I think I should be getting clear answers from.”

Exclusive: Problem Calls Chris Brown’s Flow “Better Than A Lot Of Rappers”

Image

RapperProblem is a big fan of Chris Brown. The West Coast rapper, whose Welcome To Mollywood 2 mixtape dropped last week, teamed up with Brown for the remix to E-40’s “Function” single, and came away with a new found respect for the singer/part-time-rapper. “I think he’s a better rapper than a lot of rappers, because he adds the energy that a rapper won’t do,” Problems tellsHipHopWired. “He’s gonna over-exaggerate those punch lines to make it dope.”

As the follow-up to the first Welcome to Mollywood, Problem’s latest mixtape is further helping him etch out an identity in the Los Angeles rap scene. Inspired by a sound birthed in the Bay Area, Problem is among a new school of rappers teaming with the likes of DJ Mustard and more, to help solidify the “ratchet” music movement.  His newest project features production from his League of Starz family, Inland Empire radio personality Diana Wehbe, and rhymes from labelmate Bad Lucc, among others.

Jay-Z Praises Odd Future, Weighs In On President Obama

Image

Jay-Z explains why he respects Odd Future and gives his take on President Obama’s first term.

This past weekend, Jay-Z hosted his hand-selected“Made In America” music festival with Budweiser in Philadelphia, PA. Now, in a recent interview with the New York Times, Hova explained what drove him to enlist Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All for the massive concert series.

Jay explained that he holds OFWGKTA in high regard, describing them as an anti-authoritarian extension of the youth culture. He continued on to praise them, saying they represent a harsh reaction to the evils of corporate America.

“[Odd Future has an] aversion to corporate America,” he explained. “People have a real aversion to what people in power did to the country. So they’re just lashing out, like: ‘This is the son that you made. Look at your son. Look at what you’ve done.’”

Jay also spoke on President Obama’s tenure in office, saying that he’s given inner city youths a new kind of positive role model, one that he lacked in his childhood. He continued on, reflecting on how his childhood will differ so greatly from that of his newborn daughter, Blue Ivy.

“I’ve said the election of Obama has made the hustler less relevant,” he said. “People took it in a way that I was almost dismissing what I am. And I was like: no, it’s a good thing! No one came to our neighborhoods, with stand-up jobs, and showed us there’s a different way. Maybe had I seen different role models, maybe I’d [have] turned on to that.

He continued, “I actually thought about that [with Blue Ivy’s birth], more before she was born…[my brother and I] would fight each other. My brother would beat me up. I was going to have to fight, I was going to have to go through some things, and they were preparing me. She doesn’t have to be tough. She has to love herself, she has to know who she is, she has to be respectful, and be a moral person.”

Wiz Khalifa & Amber Rose Confirm Pregnancy During VMAs Red Carpet

Image

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose pulled a Beyoncé by using theMTV Video Music Awards to announce that they are expecting their first child together. Of course the secret was among the worst kept in America, as Rose has been spotted out and about with a growing baby bump on more than one occasion.

Rocking a black lace dress, Rose solidified her love for her unborn child by rubbing her belly.

Khalifa denied the existence of a growing fetus in a previous interview, likely because he was waiting until Rose passed her first trimester just to be on the safe side.  “You will know when she’s pregnant. But it’s not the time now for people to start going crazy,” he told Philadelphia’s  Hot 107.9, last month.

The rapper and his model girlfriend are used to keeping their personal lives private. They dated in secret for a long time before finally coming out as a twosome, and got engaged in March.

This year’s VMAs is set to feature appearances from Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Big Sean, Drake, and more. Producers changed the schedule so as to not interfere with President Obama’s Democratic National Convention speech, later tonight.

Nicki Minaj Receives Death Threats Over Mitt Romney Rap Line

Image

Nicki Minaj has raised the ire of seemingly radical Democrats on Twitter with a rap line that implies she will be supporting Mitt Romney in the upcoming presidential election.

“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy b***hes is f-ing up the economy,” Minaj raps on Lil Wayne’s new mixtape Dedication 4.

The move, whether or not she means it, has caused a seemingly endless flow of insults to the rapper.

Minaj has not commented on the matter, via Twitter or otherwise.

Mickey “MempHitz” Wright Files Lawsuit Against VH1 and “Love And Hip-Hop: Atlanta” Creators

Image

Mickey Wright, Jr. p/k/a “MeMpHiTz”, intends to file a federal lawsuit against the creators and producers of “Love And Hip Hop: Atlanta,” according to his legal team.

“Ms. Pate has taken full advantage of society’s tendency to accept claims of domestic violence as always being true, even in the absence of proof. The only abuse that actually occurred is the malicious and calculated pattern of vicious lies Ms. Pate has assailed for the purpose of fabricating a compelling story line in an attempt to ruin my client’s name,” said attorneys Conti J. Moore and Alcide L. Honoré.

The suit includes Viacom International, Inc.; NFGTV, Inc.; and Monami Entertainment, LLC, the company owned by Mona Scott-Young.

According to the press release Wright is “suing the named Defendants for approximately one dollar per viewer per show for damages that stem from the defamatory statements and denigrating actions of cast member Kimberly Michelle Pate p/k/a ‘K. Michelle’.”

On the show, Michelle asserts vehemently that Wright violently beat her when they were in a relationship.

Alcide L. Honoré said, “Even the most ridiculous statements when repeated frequently become true in the minds of many. Ms. Pate’s preposterous claims, which include allegations that Mr. Wright mismanaged funds and caused her career to ‘flop’, have been adopted as truth by many followers of the popular VH-1 reality series.”

Wright said that he seeks compensation for the pain his family has undergone.

“My family and I have suffered tremendously while VH-1, Monami Ent., and the other companies provided a worldwide platform for K. Michelle to repeatedly assassinate my character,” he maintained. “The filing of this suit is to compensate for the irreparable damage that has been done to my reputation and to deter these companies from doing such future harm to others.”

Moore & Honore jointly said that they would defend their client in a court of law, particularly on the matters surrounding domestic violence.

“Domestic violence is an issue of serious nature, often having grave consequences for true victims with whom we all sympathize. However, it is unconscionable for one to play on the sympathies of the masses by levying false accusations of such heinous acts against an innocent party, simply for the sake of entertainment or for purported career advancement. After reviewing the evidence in this matter, we are prepared to litigate this case to the fullest extent of the law to seek justice for our client and to restore his name and professional reputation.”

Nate Dogg’s Family At Odds Over His Estate

Image

Nate Dogg’s family has been at odds over his estate since the singer passed away. Now, the arguments over money have intensified.

When Nate Dogg tragically passed away in 2011, he did not leave a will. This caused his wife, Latoya Calvin, and his children to have several disputes over how the late singer’s assets should be divided. Calvin took control of the assets and reportedly filed documents this week, bringing Nate Dogg’s mother, Ruth Holmes, into the fold as co-administrator of the estate. However, Nate Dogg’s children disagree with this as well.

Nate Dogg’s daughter, Aundrane Hale, recently spoke with TMZ about the situation and explained why they do not agree with their grandmother being named co-administrator.

“Ruth doesn’t have my best interest or the interest of my brothers and sisters,” Aundrane explained, while also adding that Holmes did not attend Nate Dogg’s funeral.

According to Hale, Holmes has kept money away from Nate Dogg’s children in the past and she believes the children won’t receive money from Nate’s estate in the future. She also said Holmes “was never a grandmother.”

A judge has not ruled on the case as of yet.
