Both Jay Z and Timbaland are expected to testify in a lawsuit for their song “Big Pimpin”
The hit song from 1999 “Big Pimpin” is in the news because of a lawsuit and now Jay Z and Timbaland will both be testifying in the case. Timbaland paid EMI a whopping $100,000 to use a sample from the song “Khosara, Khosara”. Now nephew of the original composer has filed a lawsuit against both Timbaland and Jay way back in 2007 but it is just now about to go to trial on October 13th. “The evidence will show that the defendants did not enter into valid agreements that ‘expressly and in detail’ — including indicating the range, purpose, and period and place of exploitation — convey the right to use ‘Khosara, Khosara’ in ‘Big Pimpin’. The evidence will also show that the defendants did not obtain the consent of the author or his heirs to introduce modifications in or additions to ‘Khosara Khosara’; therefore, any license to economically exploit ‘Khosara Khosara’ in ‘Big Pimpin’ would be null and void.” Is what the nephews family is arguing so keep it locked for updates as this can become a pretty big deal by October.

F. Gary Gray Compares N.W.A’s Message to Current Politics
The “Straight out of Compton” director, F. Gary Gray compared current political message to those of N.W.A’s song: “I have a responsibility to tell the story as accurately as possible. I didn’t want to teeter one way or the other. I think it’s pretty sad that it’s still relevant in its relationship to law enforcement, but I’m optimistic that a lot of the headlines we’re experiencing will put pressure on the leaders and law enforcement to really change. We can’t keep going down this path, in the way that we’ve been going without changing. My responsibility is to the film first and it’s just pretty much a coincidence that it’s all happening at the same time.”
