Action Bronson has his NXNE performance cancelled following criticism
Just recently a petition was launched set out to ban Action Bronson from performing at the NXNE festival that takes place in Toronto. The argument was that Bronson makes music that glorifies gang rape and murder of women. This all stems from an unreleased song from the rapper called “Consensual Rape” back in 2011. NXNE responded to this saying they would keep him on the bill but now they have changed their tune removing Bronson. Check out the full statement below.
“We at Northby Northeast (NXNE) are very proud of our 20 plus years relationship with the people of the City of Toronto. And for almost 10 years we’ve shared Yonge-Dundas Square with you to present free, all ages shows open to the public. YDS is the city’s space and as such we are obliged to listen to how the city and community want it used. A significant number of Torontonians have indicated their desire to have Action Bronson not perform at the Square. As annual guests in this space we feel we must accede to the strong wishes of the community and honour their input.
As a result, we will not be presenting Action Bronson at Yonge-Dundas Square but, hopefully we will still be presenting Action Bronson as part of Northby. We remain fundamentally committed to presenting this artist on a Toronto stage. We are not moving the Action show because we believe in censoring him or any other artists. In fact, we find the limiting of artistic expression distasteful. When artistic expression is limited, freedom and the evolution of ideas is often the casualty.
Hopefully, Action Bronson will accept our invitation to play at another, ticketed venue in the city so the public can decide for themselves if his work has merit. We booked Bronson, in part, because of his latest excellent disc, Mr. Wonderful.
We hope that this series of events does not foster some type of artistic chill in Toronto and its public spaces. Yonge-Dundas Square must remain a dynamic place where many viewpoints are expressed not just culturally but also at political events and rallies staged there.
We are heartened by the community engagement that has been taking place around this YDS show. This debate continues an important conversation about violence against women and its depiction in art and culture that is long overdue. We salute all of those who fight this battle and we would encourage everyone who has signed the petition or been engaged by this conversation to commit themselves personally to continuing the fight against violence against women. We at Northby pledge to continue being part of this discussion with the intent to help act as agents of change.
Sincerely,
The Directors of North by Northeast”

Chris Brown takes to Instagram to vent
Chris Brown just recently attacked Tyson Beckford over social media because he had taken a picture with his ex girlfriend Karrueche. Today Brown took to Instagram talking all about love and fame and how he is confused. Chris Brown says he will be a better person and does not want to be petty and attention seeking anymore. “I’m Konfuzed, I always thought I knew the concept of love. Fame and Money can get in the way of that. Most of my issues always deal with love and me being in my feelings. Not to mention me being a dog sometimes. I can’t speak for everyone but I can say that my actions contributed a lot to my karma. Being jealous and angry and controlling. There has been times where I looked in the mirror and hated the person I see. I talk to God a lot now. He’s given me so much and I feel like I waste his gifts becuz of my impulsive personality. The world is full of negativity and I feel I play a part in it becuz of the choices I’ve made or mistakes. I tend to accept the negative or the riff raff becuz I know what it’s like to be a young black “nigga” in America. I always see the good in people even when they don’t see it. I love others more than myself at times. Everything u see on the surface does not reflect what’s inside. This is my white flag. I surrender to life and all its blessings. I refuse to be petty and attention seeking. To know me is to love me. Good Bad UGLY! Sincerely, Konfuzed” Browns Instagram post said. Will he actually change? Only time can tell because at the end of the day even posting this seems to be exactly what he says he doesn’t want to do, attention seek.
Chance The Rappers highly anticipated album “SURF” is complete
Chance The Rapper has had his latest project in the works for quite some time now with so many people eager to hear it after his mixtape “Acid Rap” turned so many heads his direction. A Chicago rap scene blogger by the name of Andrew Barber got an exclusive listening to the album and give the people a run down of what to expect.
– It’s 16 tracks long
– Chance plays more of an executive-producer role, rather than appearing as the lead artist
– Donnie Trumpet really is the frontman of the Social Experiment
– Many rappers and R&B singers, both young and old, show up
– It’s incredibly varied, but altogether cohesive
– It’s a summer album
– It’s written to be performed live
– It’s coming “soon”
So we still have no release date for the album but we can expect it to drop out of no where anytime and after listening to “Acid Rap” on repeat “SURF” is bound to be another instant classic.
Kid Cudi says his next album “Speedin’ Bullet To Heaven” will have zero features
Kid Cudi seems to be done with features his at least for now. Kudi’s last album Satellite Flight : The Journey to Mother Moon only had one feature but his upcoming album Speedin’ Bullet To Heaven will have zero features on it. This was confirmed by a tweet from Kid Cudi himself that simply read “No features on ‘Speeedin’ Bullet To Heaven’ Pass it on” This can be a great thing when it comes to Kid Cudi because his sound is so different and having other artist jump on his track that have a totally differernt sound can ruin a song.

Kanye West has settled the “Bound 2” sample lawsuit
Back in 2013 Kanye West was sued by soul singer, Ricky Spicer, for the use of his own vocals in Kanye’s song “Bound 2”. Spicer has said he had no compensation for the use of his vocals even though the song was a huge success. Billboard is now reporting that they have found legal papers to discontinue the legal proceedings from early may. There is still no reason being shared for the two parties settling but is a good thing to be over with for Kanye.
