A rapper from Brooklyn named Ra Diggs gets 12 life sentences for murder, drug trafficking

radiggs

Rapper Ra Diggs has been found to be guilty on 21 charges giving him a 12 life sentence term plus an added 105 years. Some of his charges stemmed from the murder of three people and multiple counts of drug trafficking. Today he was given his huge sentence for his actions and the judge added in the 105 years because he said Ra Diggs(Ronald Herron) displayed a “complete lack of remorse” for what he did. Here is a quote from Herron just before he was sentenced “You guys sit here and continue to paint this picture that I’m the devil incarnate, the scourge of righteousness — it’s all crap. Even the most dim prosecutor could have secured a conviction under this atmosphere of guilt they built. They did all but point a big, red arrow of guilty up on that projection screen.” Apparently Herron was high in the ranks of the bloods gang, Murderous Mad Dawgs, who controlled the cocaine and heroin markets in the Gowanus and Wyckoff Houses in the Boerum Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.

jay-z-suit

In an interview with FADER of course Jay Z was there to talk about his new business venture TIDAL. The interview got really interesting when Jay said that once an artist completes their contract with a major label they could potentially exclusively distribute their music through TIDAL. We asked about working with labels this is exactly how Jay responded “Well, we can’t exclude the major labels because they have contracts with the artists. But if you don’t have a contract as an independent artist, then you can do whatever you want and we would love to work with you… I’m on Tidal. I don’t have a record deal.” Jay Z was also asked about what would make people want to switch from Spotify to TIDAL and responded with “At some point they’ll be faced with that decision. Again — there will be other things. This isn’t just about music; it’s also about concert ticketing. It’s a holistic place where the artists will live in. You may be able to download a song for free, but you’re not getting into concerts for free. There are different things that we offer. It’s not just songs — we’re offering value.” So Jay seems to have a lot of faith in this brand new company and we’ll see if any of this really holds true.

Just hours after the announcement, the university retracted their statement because of the concerns of law officials. The son was released 15 years ago and in it Common raps about Assata Shakur who was involved in the killing of a state trooper and wounding another. “While we respect his talent, Kean is pursuing other speaker options,” the spokeswoman for the university, Susan Kayne, said.

Jay Z talks about what he wants TIDAL to be

jay-z-billboard-650

In a sit down interview Jay Z talked about the new TIDAL streaming service. Jay talked about wanting to restore “fair trade in the music industry saying “Definitely. For someone like me, I can go on tour. But what about the people working on the record, the content creators and not just the artists? If they’re not being compensated properly, then I think we’ll lose some writers and producers and people like that who depend on fair trade. Some would probably have to take another job, and I think we’ll lose some great writers in the process. Is it fair? No. If you put in work, everyone else, you go to work you get paid. That’s fair trade. It’s what our country is built on.” Then Jay talks about what he wants out of the service “Artists come here and start making songs 18 minutes long, or whatever. I know this is going to sound crazy, but maybe they start attempting to make a “Like a Rolling Stone,” you know, a song that doesn’t have a recognizable hook, but is still considered one of the greatest songs of all time, the freedom that this platform will allow art to flourish here. And we’re encouraging people to put it in any format they like. It doesn’t have to be three minutes and 30 seconds. What if it’s a minute and 17, what if it’s 11; you know, just break format. What if it’s just four minutes of just music and then you start rapping?” Finally Jay talks about if there will be exclusive content on TIDAL from artists “Well, it’s up to the artist. You know, there’s a thing now, it’s called the album cycle. You put your single out, promote it, then another single — I think that now for an artist an album cycle doesn’t have to end. They’re on Instagram and Twitter and all these things, so we’re just talking about ways of extending that album cycle, and it could be anything. What if it’s a video offering tickets to the next concert, or what if it’s audio or video of the recording process? It could be anything. It could be them at home listening to songs that inspire them. Anything they want to offer, you know; just be as creative as possible, that’s the only charge, really. Make it look really good and make everyone that consumes it think, “Man, I got something really great.” Treat the people with respect; make it memorable.”
