Lupe Fiasco Ready to Battle Any Rapper in The Game: A Declaration at Coachella

Lupe Fiasco minced no words during his most recent performance at Coachella and asserted his talents as one of the greatest lyricists in hip hop.

The rapper made it very clear that he is ready to battle anyone in the industry, at any point of time. “Hear me clearly when I say this and I mean it from the bottom of my heart; when it comes to this art, and I quote, I will battle any motherfucking rapper. Anywhere. Any motherf***in’ time. I don’t give a f**k how many records you sold, I don’t give a f**k how many awards you have — if you want smoke, I swear on my motherf***in’ soul I will f**k you n****s. I will chew you n****s. I will f**k motherf****rs. Get wrecked n****s!”, he proclaimed loud and proud, as fans cheered in equal gusto.

He even went a step further to reiterate how he doesn’t care who it is in the industry that wants smoke and that he’s forever prepared, stating, “It goes for any motherf****r walking and talking — it go for Tyler motherf***in’ ass, it go for you, it goes for this bad boy lookin’ motherf****r over here. I don’t care. I do this s**t for real dog!” And well, if history is any proof, he’s not lying.

For the uninitiated, Lupe isn’t one to talk and not back it up — perhaps this point is proven best by his reaction to rapper Royce da 5’9”, whose diss ‘Silence of the Lambda’ Lupe responded to in a matter of hours with a scathing reply, followed up by Mickey Factz’ own two cents on WRAiTH.

With each project, too, Lupe has focused on intricate lyricism regarded as elite by hip-hop’s top critics. He himself is, quite literally, a scholar of rap that is responsible to a big degree for hip-hop lyricism penetrating academia in the US. Lupe has taken classes on Rap Theory at revered universities like the MIT, and seems like he is prepared to outclass anyone who dares to step up to him.

Donald Glover Announces Final Childish Gambino Album; Talks ‘Big 3’ and More

In the debut livestream of Gilga Radio, Donald Glover unveiled information around two new albums, the second of which will be the last Childish Gambino album.

The rather candid conversation kickstarted Glover’s latest radio initiative on Instagram, Gilga, where the artist spoke about the haphazard way in which his last project 3.15.20 was released – as well as its perceived shortcomings in the era of modern streaming.

He went on to speak about the album’s renewed readiness, emphasising that it will serve as a revamped release under the name, Atavista. He also admitted to the failures of its first iteration, and how timestamp based nomenclature of the tracks on 3.15.20 is not how most people consume music. He further revealed how he dropped the project without a thorough mix and master in the midst of the uncertainty that was the COVID-19 pandemic, and that Atavista will be a more polished package. Yes, this also means that a special edition Atavista vinyl release is on the way, alongside a music video for ‘Little Foot, Big Foot ft. Young Nudy’ directed by Hiro in the upcoming weeks.

Digressing from Atavista, the rapper then soft-announced the development of a fresh final project from Childish Gambino, that will serve as the original soundtrack for a film titled ‘Bando Stone and The New World’. Brimming with a familiar Gambino-esque confidence, Glover spoke about how this is the kind of project he has always wanted to undertake, and that aside from these full length music projects, fans can also expect to see a Donald Glover x Zack Fox anime, as well as an animated show titled ‘City Mouse, Country Mouse’. Excitingly, Glover also teased some unreleased tunes that can be heard here.

On a more introspective tangent, Glover also spoke about his rap persona that is Childish Gambino, revealing that RZA from the Wu Tang Clan was intent on working on one of his formative releases and how he perceived Gambino’s story as one of “a boy turning into a boss”. This stuck with the artist, who emphasises that the whole point of a Childish Gambino persona is to not be an adult in his music.

He further weighed in on the ‘Big 3’ fued and his place within this narrative, and described himself as a “court jester” that is away from the noise, trying to have fun. “F**k the culture”, he said. “The culture has n****s afraid to wear sandals. What are we doing? You’re afraid to show your toes? Everyone has them! Why are we beholden to this thing that kinda wants us to fight?” Glover then commented how people are out dying in Chicago over real beefs, and how everyone must ask what they want from the zenith and whether it is about the bars, or the expression. You can listen to the full stream here.

Rick Ross Releases Drake Diss Track, Claims He Got A Nose Job — Listen

In case you’re living under a rock, Drake’s ‘Push Up‘ diss record leaked online and the reactions have been pouring in all afternoon. One of the many targets on there is Rick Ross and just a few hours later, Rozay drops his own track.

In the track he mentions ghostwriting, plus claiming Drake got a nose job and sent a cease and desist to French Montana over a recent feature.

Ross combined the release with some social media posts, stating that this is only the beginning of a much larger feud, titling this just the ‘first quarter’ of this game. The track was played live on stream by DJ Akademiks, who acknowledged Ross’ 2-hour response time and commended his ability and willingness to do so. At the time of this story, it seems like the track is only available with DJ Akademiks.

Supposed Drake Diss Track Aimed At Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross & More Leaks Online

It feels like fans have been waiting every single night to see if Drake will drop his diss track responding to Kendirck Lamar’s ‘Like That‘ where Kendrick takes the most direct shots at Drake he’s taken in a long time.

Earlier today, something surfaced online that perked ears up. It’s a Drake song called ‘Drop And Give Me 50’ where he’s going at Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, Cash and a bunch more people. Of course, it’s 2024 so people immediately wondered if it was AI. While some are swearing that it is, some people think it’s a little too good to not be real. The inflections and tone in the bars sound exactly like Drake and the voice only sounds slightly robotic, perhaps because the leak isn’t in the highest quality.

If it is real, it’s exactly the kind of song that fans knew Drake could make, with ‘Back To Back’ and ‘Duppy Freestyle’ already in his arsenal. The title of the song seems to be a reference to Top Dawg supposedly getting 50% of Kendrick’s revenue despite him going independent. He also mentions Dot’s Pop features with Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift, denies him being in the big 3, goes at his height and sends a bunch of shots at Ross, Metro Cash and more. There’s also an interesting line where he alludes to Kendrick’s wife by name. We know how that went last time.

You can hear it below and decide for yourself. Hopefully whether it’s real or not, it gets confirmed soon.

The Alchemist Shares Original Beat for J. Cole’s ‘Stickz N Stonez’: Might Delete Later

J. Cole’s latest project, Might Delete Later, has been the topic of controversy and conversation for many. From Cole’s mixed feelings around the Kendrick snub, to the eventual takedown of ‘7 Minute Drill’ from streaming services — it is a project that continues to stir interesting conversations for the community.

Most recently however, it is The Alchemist’s contributions that have hip-hop heads talking about the project beyond the obvious hype.

The revered producer took to social media to reveal the original beat for the track ‘Stickz N Stones’, the official version of which is produced by himself in conjunction with producer Steve Bilodeau. He also teased the possibility of sending the original Alchemist version to DJs for alternative playing options for a live crowd.

While the released version boasts plucky strum based samples over boom bap breaks, the original beat seems to be a complete deviation in sonics, making extensive usage of a repeating keys-based motif on similarly patterned drums as the final cut.

The newly revealed original beat also seems to take a more minimal, bare-bones approach, almost devoid of the wind instrument section unlike in the final release. Of course, both instrumentals have been immaculately crafted to perfection in standard Alchemist fashion, which has left fans understandably divided between which the better choice is. The final cut can be streamed below!

J. Cole Removes Kendrick Lamar Diss Track ‘7 Minute Drill’ From Streaming Services

As he said he would to Ib at last weekend’s Dreamville Fest, J. Cole has removed ‘7 Minute Drill’ from streaming.

On Spotify and Apple Music, the song is greyed out so that it cannot be plated and it’s been completely removed from TIDAL. You can see screenshots below. This isn’t going to be a popular decision, but it’s interesting to see him stand by his word. How do you think this affects the future?

In case you missed it, Cole appeared on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You last night.

Russ To Release New Book ‘It Was You All Along’; Unveils Cover

Independent all-round musician and best-selling author, Russ, has just released his new book titled It Was You All Along, centered on self help and personal development. The book is a philosophical introspective foray into a bar from Russ’ first album that asks a pertinent question inspired by his mother – What if you’re the one you’ve been waiting for?

Following up on his best-selling writing debut that was It’s All in Your Head, the presumed sequel’s title is inspired by Russ’ 2024 North-American tour by the same name and makes clever use of his song titles as chapters. Published by HarperCollins, the book has already claimed the number 1 spot in the hip-hop/ rap writing section on Amazon and is ranked #8 globally. The book is also available in an audiobook format voiced by the artist himself.

The Weeknd Takes Shots at Drake On New Future Song: “Thank God I Never Signed My Life Away” ?

A$AP Rocky took a page out of Kendrick Lamar’s book and dissed Drake on the new Future and Metro Boomin album and it looks like The Weeknd has doubled down on what some considered support three weeks ago.

The Weeknd appears on multiple songs on the album, one of which is ‘All To Myself’. Fans have noted that he’s taking some fairly direct shots at Drake on there. He sings:

“They could never diss my brothers, baby
When they got leaks in they operation
I thank God that I never signed my life away
And we never do the big talk (No, no, no, no, no)
They shooters making TikToks
Got us laughin’ in the Lambo'”

Him saying he never signed his life away is a reference to signing to Warner Bros. and not OVO like some expected. Drake has addressed it, denying it was ever a source of their tension. Fans think the “shooters making TikToks” line is a reference to Baka ‘s TikTok which you can see here.

A$AP Rocky Disses Drake on Future’s New Song ‘Show of Hands’ — Listen

A lot of fans were excited for this week’s New Music Friday drops that happened about an hour ago because they were anticipating a diss track from Drake or another shot at him on Future and Metro Boomin’s new album We Still Don’t Trust You. The latter of those has occurred.

Although the features on the album are uncredited right now, A$AP Rocky appears on ‘Show of Hands’, which is track six on the second part of the new LP. Fans think a bunch of his lines are aimed at Drake and it’s hard to argue.

He raps:

“N****s in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something?
I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son
Still don’t trust you, it’s always us, never them
Heard you dropped your latest s**t
Funny how it just came and went”

Fans think he’s talking about some of Drake’s recent bars aimed at himself and Rihanna on For All The Dogs. Do you think Rocky will get some bars in the supposed Drake diss track?

Listen to the song below.
