Andre 3000 Retiring from Rap
Andre has been touring with Big Boi this year as OutKast and said he is getting too old for Rap.
“I remember, at like 25, saying, ‘I don’t want to be a 40-year-old rapper,’” 3000 tells The New York Times’ Jon Caramanica. “I’m 39 now, and I’m still standing by that. I’m such a fan that I don’t want to infiltrate it with old blood.”
“Honestly, I never planned to go onstage again in that way,” he says. “If I feel like I’m getting to a place where it’s mimicking or a caricature, I just want to move on. But I felt like: Let me do it now ’cause these kids [in the audience], it feels good to know that they’re happy. I really don’t actually get anything from performing. I feel good in being able to look at Big Boi and say, ‘Hey, man, we did it.’ Big Boi’s got these great records on his own, but this means something else for him.
Immortal Technique Speaks on Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj Comparisons
Immortal Technique explains why he doesn’t believe the two female rappers should not be compared.
“I think that in this scenario I can’t see Iggy Azalea overtaking Nicki Minaj,” Immortal Technique said during an interview with Vlad TV. “I mean, I could see her having success in her own lane. But I don’t even think they should be competing over that. Not that I listen to a lot of their music, but I’ve heard a couple of songs from each and they’re different artists. It’s not like they’re competing for the same exact spot. They have a different fanbase. I think it just—It’s silly to think that a person should be worried about someone else simply coming for their spot unless we’re talking about someone actually confronting them for stealing material…It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a female battle. Maybe that’s what Hip Hop needs…If they battled I would choose Nicki Minaj to be the winner. I’ve heard people criticize her [Iggy Azalea] because they say she don’t rap like she talks. But who raps like they talk? Very few people…I would say that the people who don’t like Iggy Azalea’s biggest criticisms over her are that she talks regular like an Australian person and then almost sounds like a caricature of a black person when she’s rapping.”

Though Drake was not able to attend the VMAs this past weekend he still came out with an award winning best hip hop video of the year. But what makes this a big deal is that he won the award for his song “Hold on, we’re going home” which a lot of people wouldn’t really call a hip hop video. Even Drake himself gave an acceptance speech while on his tour with Lil Wayne saying “I know this is a Hip Hop award, and I know a lot of you are frustrated like, ‘this is not a Hip Hop song.’ And you know what? You’re right. I tricked you all. Rappers, better luck next year. Other music videos included in the category were Eminem’s “Bezerk,” Childish Gambino’s “3005” Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” and Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz.”
