T.I. has come out in full support of the US Constitution and the Electoral College. Going the way of the popular vote, the Atlanta rapper put in his vote for Hillary Clinton instead of the President-elect. He has also come out and admits that he’s ready to accept the results and acknowledge the Republican as our next President.
“We didn’t do enough, in enough time,” Tip tells TMZ, of the efforts to disapprove of and attempt to prevent the Republican candidates success. With acceptance comes education in the election process and next steps T.I. says. Making a statement to young people and those that feel disenfranchised with the 2016 election, Tip is planning a movement to make sure people get out and vote in the 2018 Senate elections. Stressing involvement at the State and local level is where the real work for change begins.
“Now it’s about focusing on, for one, how we have to keep ourselves out of harm’s way and kind of how we unite over the next two years,” the Atlanta rapper continues, “because in the next two years there’s going to be some more voting that needs to be done, it’s some more people that need to be ousted and new blood elected.”
The superstar rapper/actor remains a Clinton supporter and keeps a link to a public petition calling for the Electoral College to make the Democrat president based on winning the popular vote when they cast their ballots December 19th. The petition now has nearly 5 million signatures and the link can be found on Tip’s Instagram bio page.
“We are calling on the Electors to ignore their state’s’ votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton,” reads the petition. “Why? Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic. Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.” T.I. is quoted saying.
The petition seems to draw from a common thread that is resident within the Hip Hop community, although as reported, Kanye West has spoken out and appears to be one rapper that’s okay with the Trump Presidency.
