Drizzy Drake took to twitter recently to deny him and his teams involvement in the “Drake’s Homecoming: The Lost Footage” that hasn’t been released yet. “The Drake Homecoming film is not something OVO or Drake have any part in. I feel it is my responsibility to inform and protect my fans.” Drake said in his tweet. The film is said to contain footage of a 2009 performance Drake did and is going to be released in 250 theaters on March 19.
Ludacris is coving Vibe Magazine and in the cover story he talks about his upcoming album “Ludaversal”. Ludacris starts by saying that he didn’t intend to delay the album but it still suffered many push backs since its original 2012 release date. “Everything ended up working out perfectly” Luda said, "I didn’t mean for it to be like this, I took a little time off because after seven consecutive albums you need to get inspired again to have some shit to write about. However, I didn’t mean for it to be five years—more like three. When we were shooting Furious 7, of course there was the untimely death of our friend Paul Walker. Production got shut down and everything got pushed back an entire year.” Hopefully when this next album is out it is well worth the wait to all of Luda’s fans.
Kanye West will be one of the headlining acts at the annual Glastonbury festival in the United Kingdom. This makes Kanye only the second rap headliner in the entire history of the festival with the first being Jay Z. The festival runs from June 24 until June 28 Kanye will be headlining the show on the Saturday night. This festival is a very rock focused thing so it is really cool to see rap artist get invited and open more people up to the genre and how amazing it can be.
Nelly has not had any new music since way back in 2013 but that has not stopped him from doing shows. The latest show Nelly did was one unlike most others traveling to northern Iraq performing in Erbil which has made him the first American musical artist to ever perform there. The event was to raise money for the Kurdish military force called “peshmerga” and also had soccer and motocross. The entire event is said to have brought in around 15,000 people hopefully they got the funds they needed.
In the midst of the Robin Thicke and Pharrell case because of their hit “Blurred Lines” being so similar to Marvin Gaye’s 1997 hit song “Got to Give It Up” another producer is saying he feels he owed for the plagiarizing of one of his songs. This producer is Jermain Dupri who was interviewed by Associated Press recently where he expressed thoughts on the Pharrell & Thicke case saying “"Younger producers like myself and Pharrell, we make records that are influenced by other records that are out there,". "I believe the same thing has happened to me." Dupri said, Ciara’s new single "I Bet" is very similar to Ushers hit from 2001 "U Got It Bad". Jermaine is now planning to contact Ciara to make sure he gets the proper credit.
On Instagram Tyga has finally confessed his feeling about Kylie Jenner. With the caption “Certain things catch your eye, but only few capture the heart” and a pictures of Kylie. This relationship between Tyga and Kylie has been a rumor for quite some time now. At first the rapper was denying even go so far as to say he wasn’t on radio shows. Tyga is sure to get a lot more people talking bad about him over the internet now but at least he is being honest now.
The show “Empire” is one of the most watched first seasons of a show ever with almost 15 million viewers tuning in the latest episode. The stars of the show are already getting ready to film the second season. The co-creator of the hit show Lee Daniels told Access Hollywood that he is writing roles for both Oprah Winfrey and Common. The two-hour season finale of the first season of “Empire” will air Wednesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
Lil Wayne was doing a show in Florida at the Nova Southeastern University and had a conflict with the DJ. During Waynes performance he was about to do his remix to O.T. Genasis’ hit song CoCo that was on his Sorry 4 The Wait 2 mixtape. Instead of playing the remix the DJ played the actual song wayne only realizing it wasn’t his version right as he was about to start rapping. This causes way to get angry and throw his microphone and make gestures at the DJ and leaves. It is not known if Wayne ever made it back to the stage but we can only assume he didn’t after making a big deal out of it. Check out the video down below of the situation.
Today Dame Dash had an interview with Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club to promote his new film “Loisaidas” that is directed by him and co-executive produced by Kanye West. Though he came to promote the film he spent 90 percent of his time trying to convince the three radio hosts that he doesn’t work for anyone and has never worked for anyone. The whole situation started very early in the interview when DJ Envy asked Dame how he met Jay Z. Dame being tired of being asked that same question and talking about Jay Z went on a rant directed towards Envy saying “No more Jay Z questions, I answered them all.” You can watch the full interview down below.
On Jay Z’s album Magna Carta Holy Grail there was a song called “Versus” that is in the news now even though the track only last a total of 51 seconds. The producers of the track were Timbaland and Swizz Beatz and they sampled a Swiss musician named Bruno Spoerri and gave him zero credit and now they have to pay up. All three have to pay Spoerri 50% of the songs total earnings and this is what Spoerri has to say about it “In a way I’m flattered that a relatively young rapper takes a sample from an old man, a sample that is about 35 years old. On the other hand I’m furious because it would have been so simple to clear the sample. All it would have needed was a call or an email to the company and I think it would have been relatively cheap.” This legal dispute took about 18 months to get sorted out but now the 78-year-old Bruno Spoerri will be getting a paid for his contribution.
T-Pain just hasn’t been a huge presence in the music world for a very long time but hopefully that will be changing very soon. A few months back T-Pain announced that he would be working with Gangsta Grillz on a new mixtape called “The Iron Way”. This project now has an official release date of March 26th which is a lot sooner than expected but great news for his fans. It is well known that Drake is one of the most successful artists in hip-hop so it is always nice to see him giving back to the community. Drake has donated a whopping $75,000 to Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This money is being used to make a brand new recording studio in the school which is in one of the poorest and most dangerous parts of the city. Back in 2013 Drake visited the school and invited some students to a private pre-show where he told them about the donation but Drake has yet to speak publicly about it. This is a great thing for that school to get kids that might otherwise be out on the streets into the studio recording and creating music.
The streaming service “Aspiro” who we recently wrote about for looking to pass on Jay Z’s offer is now owned by Jay. After making a bid of $56 million the streaming company based in Sweden it was finally accepted. As for what will be done with the streaming service we have no idea as of right now but where it stands at $19.99/month it will not stand up against the competition that is much cheaper but hopefully Jay Z and his team realize this and will make the right adjustments. Streaming music seems to be the future with Spotify, Pandora, and Beats music soon to be installed on all future Apple devices it should be interesting to see what Jay can do in this space and if it will be successful.
Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan have seemed to be real close these last few months but it seems as though things may be changing. During a show on his Rodeo tour with fellow rapper Travis Scott Young Thug referred to Rich Homie Quan as “lame” as well as calling him “Bitch Homie Quan”. “Speaking of horses..You saw the fucking video, man. This stupid lame, that n*gga tripping. That Bitch Homie Quan,” said Young Thug. Young Thug later took to Instagram to clear things up by saying there was no beef between the two but he never makes it clear why he said what he said which makes everyone skeptical. Kanye is in Paris for fashion week with concerts all over the city things can get pretty hectic. While Kanye was busy promoting his music and ideas all of his music may have actually been stolen. Malik Yusef recently tweeted out that Kanye’s laptop was jacked and “private firms” have gotten involved in the investigation to find it. Hopefully they find the laptop fast and Kanye doesn’t suffer a leak of his upcoming work that can deal a devastating blow the sales of his album.
