Bernice King Addresses Jonathan Majors + Top 5 Rappers’ Controversial References To Civil Rights Leaders

Bernice King responded to Jonathan Majors after referring to her mother, Coretta-Scott King. Majors’ words add to an ongoing theme of civil rights leaders’ names being inappropriately mentioned.

‘My Mother Wasn’t A Prop’

On Jan. 9, Bernice King, the daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., shared a post on Twitter (X) featuring a picture of her mother, Coretta Scott King. She accompanied the image with the following caption:

“My mother wasn’t a prop. She was a peace advocate before she met my father and was instrumental in him speaking out against the Vietnam War. Please understand…my mama was a force.”

The post was a subliminal response to actor Jonathan Majors, who had voicemails revealed in court during his domestic assault trial that he wanted his ex-girlfriend to  “be more like Coretta Scott-King or Michelle Obama,” although she is a white woman.

Rap Songs That Reference Civil Rights Leaders

Reflecting on the criticism Jonathan Majors faced for making a similar reference brings to mind instances when other hip-hop artists made the same mistake. Here are top five highlights where rappers referenced Civil Rights icons inappropriately in their lyrics:

Kanye West/Emmett Till – ‘Through The Wire’

Kanye West has mentioned Emmett Till several times throughout his career. Till was a 14-year-old boy who was kidnapped and brutally murdered for allegedly flirting with a white woman in 1955. In Ye’s 2004 hit “Through The Wire,” he rapped:

“How do you console my mom or give her light support? Telling her, her son’s on life support/And just imagine how my girl feel/On the plane scared as hell that her guy look like Emmett Till,” referring to Till’s mutilated face in his open casket.

Lil Wayne/Emmett Till – ‘Karate Chop (Remix)’

In 2013, rap legend Lil Wayne was under fire for also referencing Till. The controversial lyrics were in the “Karate Chop (Remix)” with Atlanta rapper Future. In the song, Lil Wayne rapped:

“Pop a lot of pain pills/ Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels / Beat that p*ssy up like Emmett Till.” In an open letter, Lil Wayne agreed to stop using Till’s  name, vowing “to uplift rather than degrade our community.”

In February 2013, Till’s cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor was among those who condemned the lyric:

“[It is] offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to [the artists] themselves as young, black men,” “Our family was very offended, very hurt … [and] disturbed by [the line].”

Till’s family did not accept his apology

OutKast/Rosa Parks – ‘Rosa Parks’

Legendary Atlanta rap duo OutKast’s 1998 hit “Rosa Parks” included a line that referenced the act that Rosa Parks did in 1955 by not giving up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus. In the chorus, the duo rapped:

“Ah-ha, hush that fuss/Everybody move to the back of the bus.”

A lawsuit was filed by attorney Gregory J Reed in March 1999 against Outkast and LaFace Records on Parks’s behalf, claiming that the group had illegally used her name without her permission. The lawsuit was settled on April 15, 2005.

In the settlement agreement, Outkast and their producer and record labels paid Parks an undisclosed cash settlement and agreed to work with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development in creating educational programs about the life of Rosa Parks.

Jay-Z/Harry Belafonte – ‘Nickels and Dimes’

Jay-Z was in an argument with the now-late iconic actor, singer, and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte

In a 2012 interview, Belafonte called out the rap legend, his wife Beyoncé, and other Black artists because “they have turned their back on social responsibility.” When asked if he was happy about minorities in Hollywood in present times.

Jay-Z would respond to Belafonte’s comments on his 2013 song “Nickels and Dimes. ” In the song, the New York native rapped:

“I’m just trying to find common ground / Before Mr. Belafonte come and chop a n*gga down / Mr. Day-O, major fail.”

Tupac Shakur/C. Dolores Tucker – ‘How Do U Want It’

The late Tupac Shakur caused controversy when he targeted C. Dolores Tucker, a former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and civil rights activist, in his 1996 song “How Do U Want It.” In the song, Tupac rapped:

“C. Delores Tucker, you’s a motherf*cker/Instead of tryin’ to help a n*gga, you destroy a brother/Worse than the others, Bill Clinton, Mr. Bob Dole/You’re too old to understand the way the game’s told.”

Dolores Tucker engaged in a campaign against rap music in the 1990s.  She condemned rap music for its “violent and misogynistic content.”

Ye compares Himself To Emmett Till

Along with mentioning Emmet Till in “Through The Wire,” Kanye West also compared himself to Till in a rant with media members in October 2022. He also called out Endeavor CEO Ari Emmauel and others for trying to “cancel him,” after his anti-semitic comments.

Eazy-E’s Daughter Speaks Out

This pattern of rappers facing criticism from family members of late stars is not an isolated incident. In 2021, Ebie Wright, daughter of late N.W.A. rapper Eazy-E, publicly called out Ice Cube in a documentary for avoiding discussions about her father.

Kanye West Faces Lawsuit For Punching Autograph Seeker

Kanye West finds himself in yet another legal battle. The Chicago native is now being sued for allegedly punching a fan who approached him for an autograph.

Kanye Faces More Legal Woes

The incident, which took place near the Soho Warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles, has resulted in a lawsuit filed by Justin Poplawski and his wife Tiffany Marshall, accusing Kanye West of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and loss of consortium.

Poplawski, a self-proclaimed “well-respected autograph dealer,” claims that he had previously obtained an autograph from Ye without any issues. However, on January 13, 2022, things took a violent turn.

According to Poplawski, West shouted at him, saying, “I’m going to make a f*cking example of you,” and referencing his divorce from Kim Kardashian. The autograph seeker alleges that West struck him several times, resulting in severe injuries.

The Lawsuit

The lawsuit further states that Kanye West screamed at those accompanying him, demanding they go to his house and get his children. One of the individuals with West reportedly intervened and urged him to stop.

It is worth noting that Poplawski asserts he approached West while standing on public property.

In the lawsuit, West is accused of intentionally assaulting and injuring Poplawski, causing harm and damages. The filing describes West’s actions as a conscious disregard for the rights and safety of the autograph seeker and others, labeling it as despicable.

The amount of damages sought by the couple has not been disclosed, but Marshall is also suing for “loss of consortium.” So far, Kanye West has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.

Kanye Tosses Photographer’s Phone

In a similar incident, a photographer previously sued Ye for throwing her phone into oncoming traffic out of frustration with surrounding photographers. The incident occurred in June 2023 and was captured in a video recorded in January 2023.

Offset Sued For Assault & Battery

In November 2023, Atlanta rap star Offset, formerly a member of Migos, faced a lawsuit by a security guard who accused him of assault, battery, and negligence. This incident highlights yet another instance of a rapper facing legal consequences for alleged violent behavior.

Kanye West Faces $1M+ Property Tax Debt On Homes Acquired With Ex-Wife Kim Kardashian

Kanye West is facing yet another financial setback as he has been accused of owing over $1 million in unpaid property taxes. The unpaid taxes are related to homes that he purchased or invested in with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian

Tax Lien Fiasco

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Kanye West’s clothing firm, Yeezy Apparel, LLC, is currently facing four active tax liens for unpaid business taxes totaling $934,033.56.

These liens have been filed against the company over the past three years. Additionally, Ye owes $101,093 in property taxes on two homes that he owned with Kardashian.

More Penalties

The State of California’s Franchise Tax Board recently issued a demand in March 2023 for $319,356.58, which includes a penalty of $97,063.78 and $9,644.40 in interest. This demand is related to unpaid taxes between October 2021 and March 2022.

Two more tax liens have been filed against Kanye, one in September 2022 from April to September 2021, totaling $321,591.71 including penalties and interest.

The other was filed in February 2022 for $279,085.99, which includes a penalty of $92,374 and interest. This lien is for the period between January 2020 and March 2021.

The Properties

Notably, the homes that Kanye purchased with Kardashian also have unpaid taxes. One of the homes is a four-bedroom mansion in Calabasas, which they bought in May 2018 for $2.2 million.

As part of their divorce settlement, Ye was given ownership of the 300-acre property.

However, he has failed to pay any taxes on the property since 2021, resulting in a total owed of $81,154. Specifically, the non-payments in 2021 amounted to $26,759, $26,781 in 2022, and $27,614 in 2023.

One other property, a three-bedroom apartment in Calabasas purchased jointly by the Chicago native and Kardashian for $1.6 million in August 2017, also has unpaid taxes totaling $19,939 since the year of purchase.

There has been no public statement from Ye regarding whether he plans to pay off these outstanding taxes soon.

Ye Sells His Malibu Home

In other news involving Kanye with houses, he recently had to put his Malibu mansion on the market. He listed the mansion for a reported $53 million and the reasons for the house being for sale are the unsafe working conditions for employees.

Ne-Yo & Ex-Wife Slapped With Tax Lien

In other news related to celebrities and tax issues, singer Ne-Yo and his ex-wife Crystal Smith recently faced their own financial challenges. In August 2023, Ne-Yo received a $3.1 million tax lien for unpaid taxes and unpaid contracts, amidst his divorce proceedings with Smith.

Kanye West’s Ex-Business Manager Drops $4.5 Million Lawsuit

Kanye West can breathe a sigh of relief as his former business manager has dropped a $4.5 million lawsuit against him. The legal battle, which had been ongoing since December 2022, centered around allegations of breach of contract.

Lawsuit Dropped

The former business manager of Kanye West has recently withdrawn the case after ongoing legal exchanges since December 2022. The initial lawsuit, citing a breach of contract, sought $4.5 million in damages.

Thomas St. John, Kanye West’s ex-business manager, initially filed the lawsuit against Ye, seeking $4.5 million in damages for breach of contract. St. John claimed that Ye had hired him in March 2022 with an agreement to pay him $300,000 per month for 18 months.

Unhinged

However, after just three months, St. John was allegedly fired by Ye. St. John confronted Ye about the money owed to him, leading to a heated confrontation where West reportedly screamed at St. John.

In his lawsuit, St. John stated:

“Mr. West became unhinged, heated, and aggressive. He screamed at Mr. St. John and made clear he no longer wanted to work with him.” St. John demanded $4.5 million in damages, alleging that West had violated their contract.

He said Ye told him:

“The 18-month term was bulls*it” and “you’re insane for even thinking I would stick to that.” The business manager demanded $4.5 million in damages.

Another Breach Of Contract

Ye denied all wrongdoing and countersued St. John for the return of the $900,000 paid to him during the three months of employment.

After months of legal back-and-forth, both parties have agreed, resulting in the dismissal of the entire case. The specific terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.

Kanye West was also sued for breach of contract by a former Yeezy employee named Dora Szilagyi in March 2023. Szilagyi sued Ye for $275,000 for breach of contract as well as wrongful termination after claiming she was fired and didn’t get paid what she was promised.

Lil Wayne Loses $20M Lawsuit

Kanye West isn’t the only rapper who has faced legal battles with former managers. Lil Wayne, another rap legend, recently lost a $20 million lawsuit to his former manager, Robert Sweeney. The case, which was concluded in January 2023, involved allegations of overcharging and failure to fulfill managerial duties.

Top 23 of 2023: Kanye West’s Unapologetic Era

Kanye West always makes headlines with his controversial and viral moments. From romantic water taxi escapades to calling out Elon Musk, Ye comes in at No.9 on SOHH’s Top 23 of 2023 countdown.

9. Kontroversial Kanye

Caught Up In The Water Taxi

In a surprising turn of events, Ye and his wife, Bianca Censori, were caught on a romantic water taxi date in Italy. However, what caught everyone’s attention was a series of photos that revealed Ye with his pants down while Bianca was between his legs.

Car Crash Rant To Elon Musk, Saying He Has Autism

Ye didn’t hold back when expressing his thoughts about TESLA CEO, Elon Musk. He shared a series of frantic text messages that exposed his belief that a car crash in 2002 caused him to be autistic. It’s important to note that Ye and Musk’s relationship has ups and downs.

Initially, they were seen as friends in 2020, but things took a turn when Ye made fun of Elon on Twitter, resulting in his account being temporarily disabled. However, in July 2023, Musk granted Ye access again, fueling the fire between them.

Is ‘YEWS’ Trolling?

Making a splash in the tech world, Ye introduced his latest creation, the “YEWS” app. With a name that plays on his nickname and the word “Jews,” this app promised unique news coverage spanning various topics like fashion, politics, sports, and pop culture.

The name alone raised eyebrows and led to debates about whether Ye was trolling the Jewish community, given that the rapper gained backlash for making controversial anti-Semitic comments in October 2022. His anti-Semitic rant resulted in the loss of numerous endorsement deals.

Ye Dishes On Celebrities

Unreleased footage from 2018 resurfaced, spotlighting Ye’s controversial rants targeting fellow celebrities. In one instance, he accused Cardi B of being an “industry plant” and suggested she doesn’t write her raps.

Ye didn’t stop there, as he also called out Kris Jenner’s boyfriend, Corey Gamble, insinuating his alleged affiliation with the CIA. Another victim of Ye’s outspokenness was Teyana Taylor, with whom he previously worked musically. Ye expressed feeling unappreciated and used by certain individuals in the industry.

Missin’ Ye In Ghana

In early 2023, Ye made fans concerned when reports claimed he had gone missing. However, it turned out that he was in Ghana attending a music festival pre-party alongside Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa. The rapper’s disappearance and subsequent reappearance left many puzzled but soon relieved as he released a song titled “Someday We’ll All Be Free” before his absence.

10. Hip-Hop Dominates The Grammys & VMAs

While Ye’s controversial moments took the spotlight, it’s important to acknowledge the impact of hip-hop in the music industry in 2023. With rising stars and established artists celebrating the culture, hip-hop played a significant role in saving the 2023 Grammys and MTV VMAs, securing its dominance in the industry.

Kanye West To Build His Own City, ‘YZY DROAM’ In the Middle East

Kanye West is making headlines once again. Known for his creative endeavors beyond music, the Chicago rapper is reportedly building his very own city in the Middle East.

‘YZY DROAM’

Dubbed YZY DROAM, this ambitious project aims to create a self-sufficient city spanning approximately 100,000 acres.

The plans for YZY DROAM were unveiled through a website seeking job applicants for project managers, engineers, architects, and contractors. With a graphic boldly proclaiming:

“YZY DROAM PHASE 1 100,000 ACRE V1 CITY PILOTING IN MIDDLE EAST RECRUITING.”

Ye’s vision for the city becomes evident. The intended size of the city is striking, being roughly four times the size of Paris and more than half the size of New York City. The rapper-turned-entrepreneur’s venture into city-building is not entirely unprecedented.

‘YZY CITY’

In 2020, the artist had plans to construct his city in Wyoming, called “YZY CITY.” This “hyper-utilitarian” underground community aimed to foster self-sustainable living for 200 people. However, his plans for YZY CITY faced roadblocks and were ultimately shut down by the state.

Users on Twitter (X)  expressed their eagerness to be part of the project. One user named @J_Rocca commented, “I will build for you, Ye,” while another user named @sundrrr_ asked, “Where can I send my CV, brother Ye?”

Though the exact location of YZY DROAM remains unconfirmed, the news has already generated excitement among fans and aspiring contributors. Kanye West also had plans to make his own ecosystem after he was cut from the luxury French designer brand Balenciaga in October 2022.

The plan was for Ye to have his self-sustained community and call it the “Yecosystem.”

‘Vultures’

In addition to his city-building endeavors, Kanye West has been making waves in the music industry. He is set to release the joint album titled Vultures with star singer Ty Dolla $ign on Dec. 31.

Originally slated for release on Dec. 15, the album features collaborations with artists such as Lil Durk, Freddie Gibbs, Quavo, Offset, Charlie Wilson, and others.

‘Akon City’

Kanye West is not the only artist with ambitions to create their own city. Back in 2021, rapper and singer Akon announced plans to build “Akon City” in Uganda. This city, estimated to cost $6 billion, showcases the desire of artists to leave a lasting impact beyond their creative works.

Judge Orders Unsealing Of Documents Linking Over 150 Names To Jeffrey Epstein’s Associates

Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious figure who allegedly operated a child sex trafficking ring, is making headlines once again. It has been recently reported that a federal judge has ordered the unsealing of court documents that will expose the names of those who were associated with Epstein.

Exposed

In a groundbreaking move, a federal judge in New York has ordered the unsealing of court documents that will expose the names of over 150 individuals associated with Epstein.

The court documents set to be unsealed are part of a settled civil lawsuit that accuses Epstein’s former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, of facilitating the sexual abuse of Virginia Giuffre. According to ABC News, Judge Loretta Preska‘s ruling paves the way for the release of these files on January 1, giving individuals an opportunity to object if they wish to keep their names out of the public domain.

However, the ruling also highlights that those who have previously given media interviews should not expect their names to remain private. The impending release of the court documents has caused significant speculation and discussion on social media platforms. One user named @siasonlyfans wrote:

“I hope they actually do and that they aren’t censored. I do however believe that in order to run an operation such as this island you would need unsuspecting guests to make it look legit. I guess if we are seeing return visits that’s going to be a red flag.”

Epstein Conspiracies

It is worth noting that prior to this latest development, various conspiracies surfaced following Epstein’s death by suicide in 2019.

Although a fake lawsuit purportedly containing names of hip-hop and R&B personalities circulated online in 2021, it was subsequently debunked. Names like Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and R. Kelly were falsely linked to the lawsuit.

The court documents are anticipated to shed light on Epstein’s sex trafficking activities in various locations, including New York, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While it remains unclear why certain individuals are associated with the lawsuit, the unsealed files are expected to expose connections through depositions, emails, and legal documents.

Ghislaine Maxwell

As the world awaits the unsealing of documents linking individuals to Jeffrey Epstein’s associates, the scrutiny of Epstein’s network has intensified.

Ghislaine Maxwell, a long-time associate of Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for charges related to sex trafficking and procuring girls for Epstein. In February, Maxwell sought to overturn her conviction and sentence.

Kanye West Takes News To the Next Level With Launch Of ‘YEWS’ App

Kanye West, the iconic rapper and entrepreneur, has again proven his knack for innovation by venturing into the news world. Ye recently launched the YEWS app, a play on his nickname and the word “Jews.”

‘YEWS’

The YEWS app is accompanied by the news site Yews. News, was unveiled on Dec. 13. Currently accessible exclusively on mobile devices, the app features two drop-down menus named “10 AM” and “3 PM.”

This latest business endeavor adds to his ever-growing empire following the announcement of his Vultures album. With the introduction of the YEWS app, Ye aims to provide a unique news experience that covers a wide range of topics, including fashion, politics, sports, and pop culture.

These menus give users access to articles covering a diverse range of subjects, all opening with captivating header artwork. This creative approach reflects Ye’s distinct artistic vision, which has made him a trendsetter in the entertainment industry. Users on Twitter (X) reacted to the launch of the YEWS app in mixed ways.

One user, @Lunch77Beatz, enthusiastically praised the news platform, stating, “YEWS is the best news site I’ve ever read.” However, another user, @Isabellahmarin, expressed concern over the app’s name, saying, “Yews is awfully…worded. Hopefully it means Ye News.”

Meet The New Head Of Design

Interestingly, Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy was announced as the new Head of Design at YEEZY through a link to Yews. News website. Notably, Ye filed a trademark for the term YEWS in October, indicating his vision of developing this unique news concept long before its actual launch.

Kanye West Files A Trademark For The Term ‘YEWS.’ Is He ‘Trolling’ The Jewish Community?

Kanye West has recently filed a trademark for the term, “YEWS.” The Chicago rapper plans to use it across various industries, including streaming, restaurants, financial services, real estate, clothing, media and audio, entertainment content, beauty products, and more. As the news broke, fans began speculating whether Kanye was intentionally provoking the Jewish community.

‘YEWS’

It has been reported that Kanye West, also known as Ye,  has recently filed a trademark for the term, “YEWS.”

The filing was made on Oct. 2 under the LLC Ox Poha Inc., which is linked to the DONDA artist’s office address on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. Despite filing the trademark, Kanye has not publicly commented on its purpose or intentions despite filing the trademark.

Is Ye ‘Trolling’?

Some fans on social media believe that Ye is deliberately “trolling” the Jewish community with the term “YEWS.” One user commented, “This is a wild man LMAO,” while another speculated, “Prob doing this, so he can say that he hates them without getting canceled again.”

The Yeezy mogul faced backlash in Oct. 2022 for an anti-Semitic rant on Twitter, leading to the loss of several endorsement deals. Kanye has not publicly commented on the trademark.

In May 2023, Kanye West filed another trademark for “Yeezy sock shoes” through his holding company, Mascotte Holdings. This filing aimed to expand and explore innovative footwear designs under the Yeezy brand.

This perception stems from previous incidents, such as Kanye placing a Yeezy office in Los Angeles next to an Adidas building after the company had previously cut ties with him. This occurred following his anti-Semitic remarks.

‘Alicia Teas’

In a similar vein, Alicia Keys filed a trademark on Sept. 25 for a new line of teas called “Alicia Teas.” Her company, AK Worldwide, secured the rights to the name and even hinted at a possible future collaboration with the popular coffee chain Starbucks in the future.

Kanye West’s Donda Academy Demands Dismissal of Discrimination Lawsuit By Former Teachers

Kanye West’s Donda Academy is seeking to have a discrimination lawsuit filed by former teachers thrown out. The lawsuit, brought by two former teachers, alleges racial discrimination and wrongful termination. The academy denies all wrongdoing and argues that the claims should be dismissed based on administrative procedures.

Raised Concerns

Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers, the only Black teachers at Donda Academy, claim they were fired after raising concerns about alleged health and safety violations.

They stated that the school did not provide proper training, lacked disciplinary systems, and had no janitor or school nurse. Additionally, they alleged unusual policies such as students only being allowed to eat sushi at lunch, the absence of chairs in classrooms, and classes being held on the first floor due to the music teacher’s alleged fear of stairs.

Teachers Labeled As ‘Aggressive’

When the teachers initially raised questions about school procedures and policies, they were labeled as “aggressive.” The lawsuit, filed in March 2023, asserts emotional distress and demands unspecified damages.

Donda Academy’s attorney argues that the teachers “failed to exhaust internal grievance procedures and administrative remedies,”  before filing the lawsuit. Kanye requested the dismissal of all claims against him, emphasizing his lack of involvement in the school’s day-to-day operations and handling of employment matters.

Despite the lawsuit, Donda Academy denies all allegations and asserts that the entire case should be dismissed. A ruling from the court is pending.

Lawsuit Alleges Unsafe Conditions At Kanye West’s Donda Academy

Former Donda Academy gym teacher, Isaiah Meadows, has filed a lawsuit against Kanye West and Donda Academy, claiming that the school had inadequate health and safety measures, including an absence of protection on the windows. This lawsuit adds to the growing allegations of mistreatment and poor conditions at the private school, raising concerns about the well-being of students and employees alike.

Former Teacher Alleges Unsafe Conditions At Donda Academy

The lawsuit alleged that the lack of windows “left students exposed to the elements” because Kanye refused to allow glass to be placed in the building’s window frames. Meadows added:

“In the middle of the main classroom, a skylight was left without glass inevitably allowing rain to fall directly inside, where water would soak into the floor, which would lead to a moldy smell for the next few days… the skylight was intentionally without glass because WEST expressed that he did not like glass.”

Meadows also pointed out “serious wiring issues,” leading to an incident in which an electrical fire was sparked “near the student eating area where wire was laid atop the ground, exposed.” Plumbing was allegedly also a problem, including a septic tank that would “overflow every other day, causing a terrible smell.”

In addition to the unsafe conditions, Meadows alleges that he was not consistently paid for his work at Donda Academy. He further claims he was wrongfully fired after voicing his concerns about the school’s conditions and safety hazards. This lawsuit follows a similar case brought against Kanye and the private school by a group of former employees who alleged that their complaints about low pay and poor conditions were reasons for their termination.

In a statement announcing the latest lawsuit against Kanye and Donda Academy, Meadow’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, called the conditions at Donda Academy “absolutely egregious” and said he and his client “plan to hold them accountable.” The lawyer stated, “the unlawful and retaliatory behavior by Mr. West and the school directors have now been documented multiple times by other former employees who never even worked together but all experienced the same horrendous treatment and witnessed the same serious health, safety and education code violations, while all were subjected to the same fate.”

The lawsuit accuses them of breach of contract and violations of California labor laws, including wage rules, wrongful termination, and improper classification.

Former Donda Academy Teacher Says Students May Have Trouble Transferring

According to Cecilia Hailey, a former teacher at Donda Academy, a school founded by rapper Kanye West, many of the students are struggling academically and may have difficulty transferring to other schools. Hailey also claims that the school lacks proper lesson plans, raising concerns about the quality of education provided to the students.

Updated By: Chris Samuel (4/11/23 at 1:47 pm)

Cecilia Hailey, a former teacher at Kanye West’s Donda Academy shared with TMZ that she feels students from the school will have trouble transferring due to them being severely behind educationally.

Hailey added that students at Donda Academy were also not getting graded at the unaccredited school. The setting of Donda Academy is similar to a Montessori school, in which children of multiple ages are in the same classroom and go at their own pace.

Meanwhile, students around the country have been behind academically since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. According to a 2022 New York Times article, most schools had to switch to remote learning, and a study by the National Assessment of Educational Progress revealed that nine-year-olds’ math and reading scores dropped to the lowest point in thirty years.

Hailey also mentioned that many problems exist at Donda Academy including a lack of chairs, locked front doors, and no structured lesson plans for the students. Topics in history that were avoided were the Holocaust and Black History Month, according to Hailey.

When discussing her departure from Donda Academy, Hailey said that she and her daughter were fired after calling out the school’s flaws and believed that race played a factor.

Donda Academy was briefly closed after West made controversial comments about Jews in a Twitter rant in October 2022.

Kanye West & Chris Brown Face Backlash For Dancing To ‘Anti-Semitic’ Song

Kanye West and Chris Brown have sparked controversy as they face criticism for dancing to Ye’s new song, “Vultures,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The song’s lyrics have since been deemed “anti-Semitic,” and the intense backlash on Twitter (X) has intensified the scrutiny surrounding the two artists.

‘Vultures’

Kanye West and Chris Brown have found themselves in the eye of a storm after being criticized for dancing to a song that contains lyrics labeled as “anti-Semitic.”

The star artists were seen in a video circulating on social media from November 23, partying in Dubai and enjoying Kanye’s new track “Vultures” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. However, it was Ye’s lyrics that ignited a firestorm, with lines such as:

“How I’m anti-Semitic? I just fu*ked a Jewish b*tch.”

Kanye & Chris Brown Slammed

The clip showing the Chicago rapper, Chris Breezy, Ty Dolla $ign, and other artists dancing to “Vultures” has sparked outrage among many people.

One user on Twitter (X), named @TerriShaltiel, referred to Kanye as a “vile, disgusting, racist Jew hater.” Another user, @MohusseinEleven, expressed their disdain for the lyrics, stating, “That anti-Semitic line may just be right there with the worst lines I’ve ever heard.”

Adding to the controversy, one user named @kaejaecamb highlighted Kanye’s lyrics as misogynistic, calling attention to the disrespect shown towards women. They criticized Kanye’s treatment of his wife, stating, “Look at how he makes his wife dress. It’s completely about showing off her body to serve his own ego.”

‘I’M PRO LIFE!’

In response to the backlash,  Brown took to his Instagram story on November 26. He vehemently denied being anti-Semitic and asserted that his music is for the entire world.

“Ima a Piru, I aint Muslim or Jewish so don’t start no shit won’t be no shit!!!”, Brown wrote, “IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM AM I ANTISEMETIC!!!”. “IM PRO LIFE AND I MAKE MUSIC FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!! So please do not get tricked into thinking I spread hate or am kool with it! This [is] for the millions of young kids that look up to [me] and [might] be confused,” Brown added.

Neither Kanye nor his representatives have given a comment on the matter.

Kanye’s ‘Anti-Semitic Past’

Kanye West has a past involving anti-semitic controversy.

In October 2023, he was accused of “trolling” the Jewish community by filing a trademark for the term “YEWS,” which is a play upon the words “Ye “ and “Jews.”

The Yeezy mogul has also lost brand deals due to anti-semitic comments. In October 2022, Gap was one of the companies that cut ties with him after an anti-semitic rant on Twitter (X), formerly known as Twitter.

Along with Gap, Kanye also lost a brand deal with luxury designer French brand, Balenciaga. The ended relationship between the two sides was also due to his anti-semitic rant on social media.

In addition, a former business partner of Kanye named Alex Klein accused him of anti-semitic abuse back in June. Klein also says that Kanye “praised” Adolf Hitler and called him derogatory names while working with him on his Donda 2 album.

Slim Thug Faces Backlash

Another rapper who recently came under fire for controversial comments was Houston rapper Slim Thug.  On his Instagram story, he said that sexual assault victims should be given a time frame on when to break their silence, rather than wait years to accuse someone.
