Beyoncé’s Three-Act Project: Is A Second Release Imminent?

Beyoncé fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of her three-act project, and recent comments from singer, songwriter, and producer The Dream have sparked even more excitement.

‘MY HOUSE’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, Jan. 9, The Dream opened up about his collaboration with Beyoncé on Renaissance. The singer-songwriter discussed his challenges in crafting the track “MY HOUSE,” which was prominently featured in Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.

The concert-documentary film delved into the creation of Queen Bey’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour, which was released on Dec.1. Dream stated:

“How do we wrap Renaissance up in a way without also trying to compete with it or make something that’s light-Renaissance, because Renaissance is a special thing?”

Dozens of fans were excited to hear of the news of a possible release of “ACT 2,” as one user named @TonyTh3King wrote, “Most folks ain’t picked their Renaissance wigs up off the floor yet. You know I’m ready tho sis @Beyonce let’s go!”

ACT 2?

However, some fans believe that others are being rather ‘delusional.’ One user named @StevenKlenk wrote, “Maybe I’m delusional but am I the only one that thinks that they would have said “how do we wrap up THE Renaissance” if they really meant they were wrapping up the era? To me this sentence reads “how do we wrap up Renaissance” (a film by Beyonce) since it’s the credit song, idk.”

Queen Bey herself has referred to Renaissance as “ACT I,” hinting at the existence of subsequent acts. In a 2022  message preceding the release of her seventh studio album, she wrote:

“This three act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative.”

R.I.P. Tina Turner

Additionally, rumors have surfaced that the “CUFF IT” singer will be performing a tribute to the late Tina Turner at this year’s 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Although the news has been confirmed by the Today Show, Beyoncé has yet to make an official announcement.

‘The Book of Clarence’ Soundtrack

While Beyoncé’s devoted fans eagerly await “ACT 2” of her Renaissance, other artists have also returned to music. Neo-soul icon D’Angelo recently returned after an eight-year hiatus, collaborating with Jay-Z on the soundtrack for the thought-provoking film Book of Clarence.

World Tour

With a sensational comeback, Beyoncé holds the position at No.5 in the top 23 of 2023. Kicking off her Renaissance era, she released her seventh studio album, Renaissance, on July 29, 2022.

The anticipation for the Houston native’s return was further fueled as she embarked on the Renaissance World Tour, which commenced on May 10, 2023.

Throughout the tour, Beyoncé demonstrated her dedication and inclusivity by shining a spotlight on the LGBTQ+ community.

In a remarkable move, she curated a show that celebrated Ballroom culture and honored LGBTQ+ icons. Not only did she incorporate members of the queer community into her performances, but she also provided a platform for their voices to be heard and celebrated.

Making Herstory

Adding another layer to her Renaissance era, Beyoncé broke barriers with her film, Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé

This documentary/concert project hit theaters and surpassed box office sales, becoming the first film in 20 years to achieve such success post-Thanksgiving. Beyoncé once again showcased her multifaceted talent and solidified her position as an unstoppable force in the entertainment industry.

In addition to her Renaissance triumphs, Beyoncé secured her place in history as the most awarded female artist in Grammy history. Top 23 of 2023: Hip-Hop Dominates The 2023 Grammys & VMAs

In a year filled with memorable moments and groundbreaking achievements, the 2023 Grammys and VMAs were ultimately saved by hip-hop. From record-breaking wins to captivating performances, the genre left an indelible mark on both award shows, leaving this moment to become the Top 10.

10. The Award Shows of 2023

The Grammys

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards witnessed an extraordinary celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. Iconic artists like LL Cool J, Run DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, and Ice-T took the stage alongside the new generation of rappers, including Lil Baby and Lil Uzi Vert

However, the night truly belonged to Beyoncé, as she made Grammy history with 32 wins, solidifying her status as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history.

The singer garnered nine nominations, the highest for any artist that year, and became the first Black woman to win the Grammy for “Best Dance/Electronic Recording” with her album Renaissance. Quavo paid tribute to the late Takeoff, who unfortunately passed in November 2022, from a fatal shooting.

The VMAs

The 2023 VMAs faced criticism as controversies overshadowed the event. Fans were disappointed by the lackluster celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, which included repetitive performances. Rising stars Victoria Monét and Coi Leray were left out, stirring backlash.

Victoria Monét’s skyrocketing solo career contradicted MTV’s claim that it was “too early in her story” to perform, as she charted with her hit single “On My Mama” during the VMAs. Coi Leray expressed her gratitude towards BET for recognizing her achievements while feeling snubbed by the VMAs. Taylor Swift‘s domination in major categories also drew scrutiny.

However, the VMAs did recognize artists like SZA, who won “Best R&B Artist,” and Nicki Minaj, who claimed the title of “Best Hip-Hop Artist” and hosted the show, captivating the audience with a performance from her anticipated album, Pink Friday 2.

Judge Orders Unsealing Of Documents Linking Over 150 Names To Jeffrey Epstein’s Associates

Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious figure who allegedly operated a child sex trafficking ring, is making headlines once again. It has been recently reported that a federal judge has ordered the unsealing of court documents that will expose the names of those who were associated with Epstein.

Exposed

In a groundbreaking move, a federal judge in New York has ordered the unsealing of court documents that will expose the names of over 150 individuals associated with Epstein.

The court documents set to be unsealed are part of a settled civil lawsuit that accuses Epstein’s former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, of facilitating the sexual abuse of Virginia Giuffre. According to ABC News, Judge Loretta Preska‘s ruling paves the way for the release of these files on January 1, giving individuals an opportunity to object if they wish to keep their names out of the public domain.

However, the ruling also highlights that those who have previously given media interviews should not expect their names to remain private. The impending release of the court documents has caused significant speculation and discussion on social media platforms. One user named @siasonlyfans wrote:

“I hope they actually do and that they aren’t censored. I do however believe that in order to run an operation such as this island you would need unsuspecting guests to make it look legit. I guess if we are seeing return visits that’s going to be a red flag.”

Epstein Conspiracies

It is worth noting that prior to this latest development, various conspiracies surfaced following Epstein’s death by suicide in 2019.

Although a fake lawsuit purportedly containing names of hip-hop and R&B personalities circulated online in 2021, it was subsequently debunked. Names like Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and R. Kelly were falsely linked to the lawsuit.

The court documents are anticipated to shed light on Epstein’s sex trafficking activities in various locations, including New York, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While it remains unclear why certain individuals are associated with the lawsuit, the unsealed files are expected to expose connections through depositions, emails, and legal documents.

Ghislaine Maxwell

As the world awaits the unsealing of documents linking individuals to Jeffrey Epstein’s associates, the scrutiny of Epstein’s network has intensified.

Ghislaine Maxwell, a long-time associate of Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for charges related to sex trafficking and procuring girls for Epstein. In February, Maxwell sought to overturn her conviction and sentence.

The Le Papillon Foundation

On Sunday, December 17, LaTavia Roberson held a private screening of Beyoncé’s concert film, titled Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, on behalf of her non-profit organization, Le Papillon Foundation, at the iPic Theater in Houston, TX. Before the private screening, Roberson shared prominent words as she stated:

“This is for my non-profit organization, Le Papillon Foundation, and that means the butterfly in French. And the reason why I like to reach out to young girls, is to just show them that no matter what, you are beautiful.”

A Mini-Reunion

LaTavia’s event brought together former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett and other attendees to celebrate entertainment, healing, and growth through Beyoncé’s Renaissance film, which was released on Friday, Dec. 1. LaTavia highlighted the significance of the film and why she chose the film to screen, stating:

“What I got from it is how girls can see how she [Beyoncé] transformed what she had in her mind. It did not take her overnight, it did not take her all day. I want the girls to be entertained and to be educated.”

On behalf of LaTavia, it has been a “Renaissance,” for herself. How Beyoncé’s Iconic Self-Titled Album Changed The Music Industry Forever

On Friday, December 13, 2013, Beyoncé changed the game with her self-titled album drop. Most of the Beyhive may remember where they were when that digital popped, shifting the music industry forever.

‘Happy 10th Anniversary!’

Queen Bey’s self-titled album, BEYONCÉ, was released at midnight on iTunes with no prior promotion through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records, marking an instant game-changer.

Ten years later, the album remains the most iconic and influential in music history. To commemorate the album’s 10th anniversary, the iconic singer took to Instagram to share a 2-minute reel highlighting moments and fan reactions from that era. In the background, she said,

“I still get scared with every album release. I’m constantly searching for the deeper purpose of my art.” While ending with, “Happy tenth anniversary.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0yCattOteL/?igshid=ZDE1MWVjZGVmZQ%3D%3D

Additionally, she made the single “Grown Woman” available on streaming services after initially having only the music video accessible on media platforms for a decade. The album’s impact has been resonating with fans, who recognize its influence on the industry.

One fan on social media named @msyonceslay wrote, “Nobody in this world can think like Beyonce, she’s truly ONE OF ONE. There’ll never be another Beyonce or another album like self-titled. CHANGED THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY.”

Queen Bey, The Game-Changer

Beyoncé’s self-titled album was not just a collection of songs but an artistic statement. With 14 tracks and 17 accompanying music videos, Queen Bey explored themes of feminism, romance, and societal norms.

One of the lasting effects of the “CUFF IT” singer’s album release strategy is the shift in the music industry’s release day. Traditionally, music was released on Tuesdays, but thanks to Beyoncé, “New Music Fridays” became the norm.

According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, this change was directly influenced by Beyoncé’s surprise drop. It gave consumers something to look forward to each week and transformed the industry’s approach to album releases.

The process of creating the self-titled album unfolded as Beyoncé did not inform her label or the world about the surprise. She explained that she went on iTunes and clicked “upload” in the middle of the night, right after her show for the 2013 Mrs. Carter Tour. She recounted:

“I just got off the stage. It was 11:30 once I took off. And I had a glass of wine, and my cousin Angie (Beyince) was like, ‘Girl, you alright?’ Because I was talking to myself, because I was terrified.”

Making Herstory

The success of the self-titled album speaks for itself. In its first three days of sales, it sold over 617,000 copies in the United States and 828,773 copies worldwide on the iTunes store, making it the fastest-selling album in the platform’s history.

By the end of 2013, Beyoncé had sold 2.3 million copies worldwide. The album’s impact continues to be recognized, as it has achieved 5x Platinum certification by RIAA, with every track certified gold or higher.

Beyoncé has consistently set the standard throughout her career, remaining prominent in her two-decade-long journey. Queen Bey has showcased enduring longevity, releasing her seventh studio album, Renaissance, along with a groundbreaking world tour and a subsequent major theater release.

Ye & Ty Dolla $ign Preview ‘Vultures’

While Beyoncé’s self-titled album left an indelible mark on the industry, other artists have also made waves with their highly-anticipated releases. Kanye West, known for his innovative approach to music, recently previewed new music at Art Basel in Miami for his upcoming album Vultures including a feature from his daughter, North West.

Beyoncé Accused of Copying Artist’s Work for ‘Renaissance’ Visuals

Renowned artist Hajime Sorayama took to social media to accuse Queen Bey of copying his artistic visuals for her successful Renaissance World Tour. One of Beyoncé’s dancers has since responded to the allegations.

‘Officially’

Hajime Sorayama, known for his work on the original Sony AIBO Robotdog, recently expressed his disappointment in not being asked officially by Beyoncé to use his concept of erotic feminine robots for her Renaissance World Tour visuals.

While one of the icon’s dancers defended her by mentioning the use of the original robot on the tour, it remains unclear whether Sorayama is seeking credit or considering legal action. In an Instagram post, Sorayama called out Beyonce, saying:

“ Yo @beyonce You should have asked me ‘officially’ so that I could make much better work for you as like my man @theweeknd.”

‘56 Shows Straight!’

Why Do Black Prominent Figures Face Persistent Scrutiny Regarding Their Racial Identity?

Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, took to Instagram to defend her daughter against the backlash she received for her appearance at her Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé premiere. Fans flooded social media with comments, accusing Queen Bey of bleaching her skin. This prompts the question: Why do Black prominent figures face constant scrutiny regarding their Blackness?

Ms. Tina Fires Back At Haters

On Nov. 25, the premiere of Queen Bey’s Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé occurred, marking the upcoming release of the “CUFF IT” singer’s highly anticipated film on December 1. During the premiere, Beyoncé was donned in silver and chrome Versace attire with platinum silver hair, leading some social media users to accuse her of bleaching her skin and being “whitewashed.”

Tina Knowles slammed these allegations, stating:

“She does a film, called the renaissance, where the whole theme is silver with silver hair, a silver carpet, and suggested silver attire and you bozos decide that she’s trying to be a white woman and is bleaching her skin? How sad is it that some of her own people continue the stupid narrative with hate and jealousy. Duh, she wore silver hair to match her silver dress as a fashion statement clown. ALIEN Superstar duh! What’s really sad is that a white woman had the audacity to reach out to Neal Beyonces hairstylist she was from TMZ to say that the fans are saying that she wants to be white and she wanted to get a statement about it from Neal.. lWell that made, my blood boil, that this white woman felt so entitled to discuss her blackness. What’s really most disappointing is that the some Black people yes you bozos that’s on social media. Lying and faking and acting like you’re so ignorant that you don’t understand That black women have worn platinum hair since the Etta James days. I just went and looked at all the beautiful talented black celebrities who have worn platinum hair and it has been just about everyone of them at one time or another. Are they all trying to be white? I am sick and tired of people attacking her.”

Following Tina calling out those diminishing her daughter, users had much to say regarding her recent comments.

One user named @MJFINESSELOVER wrote, “I’m glad Mama Trina DRAGGED all of the bozos and losers, who were accusing Beyonce of bleaching her skin, and also TMZ for having the audacity to even reach out to Beyonce’s stylist for comment on this nonsense. She has had enough of ya’ll attacking her daughter. Smh.”

Fellow Celebs Offer Outpouring Support

As Tina vouched for her daughter, the Knowles matriarch was met with an outpour of support from many including actress KeKe Palmer, LaTavia Roberson, Octavia Spencer, and more.

Keke wrote:

“I love you so much Ms. Tina! She deserves to be protected in this way!”

Former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia chimed in and wrote:

“Educate them, they always try to break the Black Woman especially one they feel intimidated by. The true definition of a protector.” Lastly, Octavia Spencer wrote, “You have raised beautiful, intelligent black, PROUD TO BE BLACK women. Period. Anyone who says otherwise has their own issues to deal with. I’m sorry you’ve come across the negative comments that people don’t realize is a reflection of how they feel about themselves.”

‘Not Black Enough?

This narrative has sparked conversations about the challenges Black artists face, where the most prominent figures are often questioned about their “Blackness.”

For numerous years, Queen Bey has constantly emphasized and celebrated her Black identity, utilizing the powerful platform she has garnered. From her early solo career to the present, Beyoncé has consistently been a prominent advocate for the Black community.

One notable instance is her 2016 Super Bowl performance, where she paid homage to the late Michael Jackson and the Black Panther Party while delivering a powerful rendition of her single, “Formation.” During this time, she faced scrutiny, even being questioned about whether she was “Black enough” to undertake such a performance.

Queen Bey Has Always Embraced Her Blackness

Beyoncé’s creation of Lemonade further exemplified her commitment to portraying and honoring Black culture in the critically acclaimed film.

Additionally, the iconic 2018 Coachella performance, famously known as “Beychella,” stands as another testament to the iconic singer’s dedication to pushing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) culture to the forefront, celebrating the richness of Black tradition.

Showing consistency in her craft, Bey’s album The Gift and the accompanying film, Black Is King, emerged as a spinoff from the live-action adaptation of The Lion King, where it not only featured numerous Black and African artists but also highlighted the essence of African Traditional Religions.

Then, in her latest project, Renaissance, the “Run The World” singer continues to cast a spotlight on the Black community, specifically the Black queer community, celebrating the depth in both her album and the accompanying film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.

Michael Jackson Too?

Similarly, the late great  Michael Jackson was no stranger to scrutiny regarding his Blackness.

Despite his physical Black appearance, Jackson’s skin underwent transformation due to the skin disorder called Vitiligo, leaving him to become lighter than he was. However many believed Michael “bleached” his skin because he wanted to appear as White and that he “hated” his racial identity.

He addressed these speculations during a 1994 interview with Oprah Winfrey, expressing his frustration with the spread of false narratives. The King Of Pop stated:

“I have a skin disorder the pigmentation of my skin. It is something I cannot help. When people make up stories that I don’t want to be who I am, it hurts me. It’s a problem for me. I can’t control it.”

Dr. Umar Calls Out Rappers

While some individuals question the Blackness of prominent figures like Beyoncé, others within the black community have taken a different stance. Dr. Umar Johnson, for example, criticized certain rappers for promoting philanthropy while still rapping about violence, highlighting the hypocrisy within the hip-hop industry.

From Beyonce To Aaliyah: Songs Fans Probably Didn’t Know Were Covers

Many fan-favorite tunes are covers of earlier melodies created by pioneers that may have been unknown by some fans. Some include top hits sung by chart-topping artists such as Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Salt-N-Pepa, and more.

Beyoncé – ‘If I Were A Boy’

Queen Bey surprised fans with her 2008 hit “If I Were A Boy,” a cover of BC Jean and Toby Gad’s song. This rendition reached No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and garnered multi-platinum certifications in various countries.

Salt- N- Pepa’s ‘Whatta Man’

Salt N Pepa’s timeless hit “Whatta Man” was a cover of Linda Lyndell’s 1968 original. The duo’s version reached impressive positions on the Billboard Hot 100, the UK Singles Chart, and the UK Dance Singles Chart.

Aaliyah’s ‘At Your Best’

Aaliyah’s 1994 hit “At Your Best” was a beautiful rendition of The Isley Brothers’ 1976 smash hit “At Your Best (You Are Love).” The single spent weeks on the Billboard charts, peaking at No. 3 in September 1994.

Destiny’s Child – ‘Emotion’

Destiny’s Child, the iconic girl group, also tried their hand at covering songs. In 2002, they released their version of Samantha Sang’s 1978 hit, “Emotion,” which became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lauryn Hill’s ‘Killin’ Me Softly’

Lauryn Hill captivated audiences in 1996 with her rendition of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly.” This cover topped the Mainstream Top 40 chart, leaving an indelible mark on music history.

Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”

Whitney Houston’s 1992 rendition of “I Will Always Love You” is considered a classic.

However, not many people know that the original belongs to Dolly Parton. Houston’s emotional tribute to Bobby Brown took the song to new heights.

Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”

Aretha Franklin’s iconic anthem “Respect” won her a Grammy and became a major feminist anthem. But it was originally written, and performed by the late music great Otis Redding in 1965.

These surprising covers remind us of the innovation and creativity that artists bring to their craft. While making a song, they pay homage to the original creators and introduce these timeless melodies to a new generation of listeners.

What’s The Problem?

In the world of hip-hop, sampling has been a long-standing tradition.

However, there are concerns about the overuse of sampling by newer artists, which some argue leads to a lack of originality in the genre. Hip-hop fans are divided on the issue, with some appreciating the homage paid to older tracks, while others feel it stifles the growth and creativity of the genre.

Goodie Mob Gets Real

Sampling has been a prominent element of hip-hop, and artists like Goodie Mob have witnessed its impact. In an exclusive interview with SOHH, members of Goodie Mob discussed their perspectives on hip-hop sampling, the state of the modern hip-hop world, and the influence of Drake’s success.

Beyoncé, Usher, Adele & New Edition: Will Residencies Replace Tours For Veteran Artists?

The legendary Beyoncé is rumored to be the next contender for Las Vegas’s newest residency, the Sphere. In addition to Queen Bey’s potential residency, artists like  Usher, Adele, and New Edition have already embraced the idea of regular weekly shows in a single city. Could this be the new wave for veteran artists?

Las Vegas Residencies

According to the New York Post, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, and Jay-Z have taken tours of the $2.3 billion venue, the Sphere, on the Las Vegas Strip, sparking rumors that she may be the second performer at the residency preceding rock band, U2

A concert residency entails a series of concerts performed at a single location, typically for months to years. Artists like Usher and Adele have already seen significant success with their Vegas residencies.

The “Confessions” singer, who debuted his My Way: The Las Vegas Residency in 2021, reportedly earns over $2 million per night. Similarly, Adele’s “Weekends With Adele” show at Cesar’s Palace brings in over $690,000 per night.

In addition, the legendary R&B group, New Edition has announced that they will be embarking on their Las Vegas residency, which is set to begin in February 2024

Ecstatic BeyHive Fans

Fans have eagerly anticipated the possibility of Beyoncé utilizing the venue’s full potential. One user wrote, “I saw this coming. She’s one of the few artists with the creativity to utilize the sphere to its fullest potential.”

However other fans are opposed to the news, believing that Beyonce won’t be doing a residency. User @AshleyShyMiller wrote, “I hate to burst ya’ll bubble, but Beyonce is NOT doing any residency anywhere. Let’s be smart.”

As fans express their excitement and skepticism, the prospect of residencies replacing tours is gaining momentum. With the success and profitability of residencies, it seems that more artists may follow suit in the near future.

RENAISSANCE: A Film By Beyoncé

While Beyoncé’s potential residency is generating buzz, it’s worth noting that she recently concluded her groundbreaking tour, The Renaissance World Tour. The tour, coupled with the upcoming release of her concert film, “RENAISSANCE: A Film By Beyoncé,” which is set to premiere on December 1.

Physical Records Vs. Streaming

In another related discussion concerning veteran artists, there is a debate over whether artists should embrace physical records in the streaming era. While streaming dominates the music industry, some argue that artists should continue to release physical records to cater to fans who appreciate the tactile nature of music consumption.
